Ask for WFR?

Well, I'm a DBA for the HP Enterprise division. We have heard rumors and some fact that people are being told to move to office. However, we keep on asking for updates and receiving no responses. I have another job lined up, just need to give HP the word. There is no way I am going to go to an HP office all day when my team works states away. Any way I can ask HP for WFR in order to get severance?

Wow you are lucky. Everyone who could not find an office to report to in our organization was let go on July 28th. The really nasty part was in regards to the people that had no local office for which to return, like our New York colleagues. They were told to move to an HP location in another state (at their own expense) or be let go. Needless to say, no-one made this move and as a result we lost our most experienced, most skilled specialists.

Same as Anonymous151403. I heard the same thing happened here. Manager not being upfront or open about anything. Guy sitting next to me was told that his job has moved to Asia and that he either relocates there or looks for another job.

I was in the same exact boat. No one could give me a straight answer for months. Finally after some wrangling, I conceded to management and was making arrangements to move closer a site. I put my house up for sale and scheduled movers, and mid-escrow on a new house. Two weeks later, I received the dreaded phone call and was told I was WFR'd. The manager/weasel kept saying "my hands are tied." HP lost a 15yr dedicated and top performing employee. They don't care about you or the work you do, they only care about cost-cutting and impressing the Wall Street.

This is a royal mess, from the HR perspective. I am in the same boat as you, no communication and when I get a bit of info, it's conflicting with whatever was said to me previously. Good lord...
