Thread regarding Cameron International Corp. layoffs

More news at Brittmoore....

First we find out that our Offshore Products Division got sold to Keppel, as many of us anticipated, and then we have a townhall meeting already planned to give us 60 day notice required by law for massive layoffs. We were told to expect 150 layoffs this year due to market forces. So supposedly this has nothing to do with Schlumberger or Keppel. That is half of the employees that work at this facility!!! We were handed information basically encouraging us to seek employment elsewhere. And there is something about a retention incentive for those of us that stick around. We don't have details about this retention pay yet. There will also be 2 outplacement workshops held at the facility by a 3rd party.

It's all lies. Another American company sold out overseas.

Things started going south after they bought TTS. Norwegians took a dump on OEM.

I started off my career at OEM power systems. No longer there but kind of sad to see its getting dismantled like this.

They can't make up their minds. Originally, based on advice from Norway, they wanted to can power systems completely and laid off 14 out of 17 engineers. Then they realized they won't be able to cater to land rigs without providing power systems. Most likely scenario at this time is power systems engineering done by Cameron with assembly outsourced locally in Houston. The bids they've been getting to assemble the drives have been considerably lower than the cost to build them in house.

Rig Equipment Houston management has been saying since the beginning of the year that they wanted to close down the OEM half of the Brittmoore/Beltway facility by the end of the year. MP/DW assembly will move to the Lewco side where the motor shop is now, and with the Keppel sale, elevating units are gone. Drives will likely be outsourced locally.

I sure would have liked some advance warning before they knocked us off.

And this is 150 MORE layoffs in next few months! This will be in addition to the 140 or so already laid off earlier this year. So there will be ALOT more open space and empty offices.
