Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Comparables

CHK:

~5,500 employees, current market cap 4.03 billion

MTDR:

Under 200 employees per Linkedin page, current market cap 1.64 billion

DVN:

5,900 employees as of 12/2013, current market cap 15.12 billion

APC:

6,100 employees in 2014, current market cap 32.22 billion

CLR:

Employees, look to your left, then right, all three of you should be laid off.

Don't feel bad in the slightest. If I compared CHKs market cap to AAPLs that would be useless. It's a relevant comparison and I'd like to work on employees/net acres ratio next.

Not all departments have downtime.... Where I work we are pretty damn busy and still creating new positions!!

Market cap to employee numbers is an idiotic ratio. You are bad and you should feel bad for posting this. Mcap has no basis in the workforce required to operate a company.

CHK should have about 400 employees, max, the rest contract labor.

Seriously, anyone who works or has worked at CHK is well aware of how much downtime there is across the board. That along with the fact that many employees spend 10-20 hours each week in completely pointless meetings makes it clear that layoffs are justified. In most areas, the company won't even suffer. The only change will be that the remaining employees will actually have to work a full 40 hour week, likely for the first time in their career.

142390 - In hindsight I realize this is not something to joke about, so no, not everyone should be laid off, but at least 50% should.

Chesapeake will need that scanning electron microscope to find their future stock prices!
