That was the best laugh I've had in a long time. I'm glad someone from IT named Tad is busy trying to defend his job at the expense of other employees by pretending to be a self-righteous Engineer or Geologist with a post graduate education that can't spell or write in coherent sentences. Jesus wouldn't be very happy you are lying from a church pew Tad.
The company is still drilling new wells.
"The geos and engineers are what actually make the company money". I hear this statement among my peers far to often. Sure we do. So does every other group in the building. I know it is easy to think about Oil companies in terms of engineers and Geos but we have an incredible network of people behind us that are assisting with this process. My team deals with North Texas. We would be far less profitable, or in this environment far more costly if not the efforts of IT. When our reports and alerts are not delivered in Outlook we are loosing money. When I see this issue I contact, Tad and he gets the issue fixed. So claiming we are the only ones making the company money is a failure to see the overall picture on how the money is actually obtained. There are other examples, but church is almost over ;) . If it makes you fell better to claim we are better than the rest of the company and that we bring some sort of indispensable value please continue to do so. Please feel free to repeat the phrase "The geos and engineers are what actually make the company money." over and over right up till someone notices your lack of value, and provides you with a cardboard box. To the people that support us everyday thank you for you assistance. I am sorry to hear that you lost 15% of your IT staff. You are doing a great job.

Well what do you really expect. IT lost 15% across the board. I would think at this point the business side of the house is thinking "If we are not drilling and we are just re fracking the well we already have in production, maybe we don't need all these geologist and engineers." They may be slowly trimming down the business side of the house simply because it has slowed down.
And they are. Restructuring is still going on. No major layofs just a few here and there every week. ss87
