Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I don't know anyone impacted by the Q layoff

I have a lot of old timer friends from the Q. And none of the older timers that I know were impacted by this layoff. Also, I don't know many people in corporate R&D that were impacted, older timer or newer guy.

i was impacted but got a job 2 weeks after my manager told me. Feeling lucky now.

At least got a year bonus.

I work in corporate r and d. II won't be let go until the last light switch is turned off. They will outsource everyone else elsewhere before that happens.

176241: Either you do not work at Qualcomm or you do not pay any attention to what is going on around. If the former is true, why post. If the latter is true, I hope Qualcomm finds you and lets you go. There was once a time that Qualcomm hired people with top smarts. We believed hiring someone who was skilled at pulling lever A would be no use in the day of lever B. So, were you hired to pull lever A or B?

I'd say half that I know of are old-timers and a large percentage are voluntary. I know of one old timer who was still performing well who was given GTFO papers (non-voluntary) who IMHO was still a valuable asset to the company. The rest were over-paid and too old & burned out to be very effective.

They need to hit director & above harder in the next round. None were let go in our area. That's where the real savings is going to be. What if we need yet another corporate jet next year? And how will we be able to hand out more retention bonuses to the corporate officers unless they cut much deeper?

We can hire some secretaries skilled in Power Point with good taste in fonts and color selection to collate the weekly report. Have them work Tuesday through Sunday so they can send out the report on the weekend.
