Thread regarding Monsanto Co. layoffs

Working for Monsanto

It's not all that bad, regardless of layoffs I'd say that Monsanto is a great place to work, a great employer with a casual environment. The employee benefits are outstanding and can hardly be matched. We provide vacation and paid-time off and company holidays are more than generous - for example, Monsanto is closed between Christmas and New Year's Day. Here at the St. Louis site we have a cafeteria, and fitness. A few years back we started a wellness incentive program - Our employee turnover is super low and most employees enjoy working here, people stick around and until the most recent layoffs news all things were awesome...It is a great time to work for a company such is Monsanto. The company is still growing and there are lots of opportunities available, Internally you can advance quite a bit...We believes strongly in promoting from within so, rest assured, there will be many opportunities to move around the company and advance your skills.

I left a few years back - I saw this coming.... This company is plagued by raw arrogance, certainly within management. Try to introduce any change and good luck - silos are developed all over the place, fiefdoms,... Good luck trying to navigate that if you want to be successful and grow. All BUs are very territorial and internal transparency horrible - senior and upper management is typically solid when it comes to setting direction and strategy - they fail miserably when it comes to execution

Same here - if things are so rosy, why are they about to decimate the workforce. Keep in mind that cuts will be much bigger here in the States, so that 12% is going to be much bigger here

If Monsanto is still growing and there are job opportunities, then why don't they retrain and retain the 2,600 loyal employees being laid off? I don't understand companies today. Is it less expensive to pay severance packages than to retrain?

Pay, Career growth limited at Monsanto, forget the layoffs for now (there will be more and more layoffs due to external pressures and industry swings). There will be no improvements as long as our middle management is siloed. In general we feel somewhat stifled by all the bureaucracy that pervades the company (this is pretty rampant), beyond the front-line execution roles, and the first level of management (supervisors). Senior management is still blind about this issue, and this has resulted in many setbacks in some of our field operations
