I wasn't laid off but took a buyout after working 19 years; this meant receiving a pension and 18 paychecks, from late December '08 to early May '09. After the last check I wrote on Jim's Blog. I didn't drink the Kool Aid of the 5th floor Brand Marketing Department, not to be confused with the 6th floor, where the professional Marketing heads were.
The Senior Director and manager undermined me almost daily and yearly reviews were a joke, which is why I conversed with the VP, who was willing to hear the details, and I left a stinging exit review of some 5th floor management.
The undermining and subsequent buyout actually worked out for the best as my present job pays more and the coworkers are adults, both in mind and body, averaging my age; there is a youth movement strategy to the layoffs and I jumped ship. Craigslist was what saved me as far as employment; yes, leave a tight resume on there and good luck!
