Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Employee part of this industry is going bye bye in the next 3-5 years (Laid off or cancelled out)

I am a said contractor and have worked with Hewlett Packard for years now, I would never be an employee, maybe it'd be good to be an employee now as employees will get severance payment now, nothing will go to contractor. I've been an HP contractor mainly for other reasons but yes we are less expensive and we actually are on the ground doing the work. Making us the indispensable in times like these... I have worked for the last 15 years while employees have come and gone or hopped one company to the next. Guys who have the experience don't be afraid to call an agency and get out there as an independent. Because the employee part of this industry is going bye bye for the next 3-5 years. I know a lot of people want to stay in the field and this is a way to be responsible for your own bottom line.

Contracting is not all that glamorous as you'd like to present it here, there is no job stability and firms cut contractors first, they do not have to be laid off, they just let you go - at HP they have to lay you off but if you are a contractor they just tell you to leave. That's it, no pink slips, no layoffs, no WARN notices, you are so exposed and not protected
