Laid off? Do NOT sign any paperwork. Seek legal advice immediately. HR is full of clever foxes. It's your job to be one step ahead.

Correct; right now I can't tell if it's just the last payment I would forfeit or all of it, but why not sign? What would I sue for? It's been a depressing work environment ever since the Meg announcement of the 30K WFR plan a few months ago. I got my notice on Monday (Nov.9). What's funny is the letter states my job is eliminated, and yet I've been doing knowledge transfer to Costa Rica for the last two months. The weird thing is the FAQ doc gives an answer that if you don't find another job within HP during the 60 days after your last day then you are ineligible for HP rehire. I interpret that as EVER. I think that's weird. Really weird. I haven't interviewed for a job in almost 20 years! I'm actually a bit excited. New opportunities, new whacky people to meet! And I don't have to stay in IT.
Why not sign, if you do not sign you get no severance and there is no way for you to protect yourself
