I used to work for CHK and I really enjoyed my time there - even if I had to endure bad bosses, lame training COUGH Who Moved My Cheese COUGH and many uncertainties in my job status. I for one knew that I would never retire from CHK so my time there was temporary and I tried to enjoy it as much as possible. I bought the swag, attended the parties, got to know a LOT of great people and finally, I left CHK for another job. I know you all are going though a difficult and uncertain time right now and I feel for you but try not to focus too much on the bad side of things. Yes it's scary to be unemployed with debts and family obligations.....we all know that and many of us have been there. But if you are laid off today or tomorrow or at anytime past or present, please know that this is simply a moment in time and it will pass. There WILL DEFINITELY BE better days in your future. You will smile again, you will laugh and love again. There is life after CHK even if your heart is breaking. Please don't let the uncertainty rule you - rise above it and do your best to comfort those around you. And please know, there are many of us former CHKers that are living great lives after having left CHK. My prayers are with you all. Now - keep your heads up and a smile on your face. Be brave and try to enjoy the day. -Peace and harmony

Once you realize the golden handcuffs placed on you at CHK were in fact just handcuffs you will be OK. Plenty of inept leadership there. Sun will rise, just breathe easy and formulate a plan for your next steps. God speed to all.

I agree with all of you. This is a worthwhile post. I left in 2013 and have since developed my career way beyond the constraints of CHK. It's scary at first, but be patient, take a little personal time with your severance if you are able to do so, and make the changes in your career path that you were hesitant to make because of the comfort of CHK.
Good post. Many people take it to the next level after a lay off. Good luck to those that left CHK today strictly because of the oil economy.
I agree this post is a breath of fresh air today! I like it but I have also been unemployed and looked in jobs in other cities it is hard, but see it as a bit of a vacation. You at least have severance, I didn't.
Yes, I agree. I was with CHK for 7 years before the 2013 Layoff. I knew I was a little undervalued for the skills that I had developed in that time. I had out paced my pitiful raises and empty promises. I learned a great deal at CHK and I truly cherish that experience but I was able to get another job before my severance ran out and now I have doubled my CHK salary in less than a year. They really appreciate me more at a smaller company. Think about it, and good luck.
The things you say are true, but it took at least a year for me to get to that point. It can be a long and difficult journey.
