Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Hewlett Packard Severance Package

HP Layoff Package: Anyone knows what a typical HP severance package is. I am in HPE and I've been with the company 18 months, do you maybe know if I may be eligible for unemployment and if COBRA may be offered for employees that do not have long tenure with the company. I have been hired straight from school and this is the only place where I worked. I liked it here at HP as I was able to learn a lot in 18 months, but I fear that my days at HP may be over and that I may be laid off by HP.

Severance pay is not required by law when someone is involuntarily laid off. HP used to pay one weeks pay for each year of service, with a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 20 weeks. They even had that policy in writing on their website. A few months ago, they pulled it off the website, but you can still find it as an archived web page if you search hard enough.

Recently, they have only been paying 2 weeks severance pay to everyone, regardless of years of service. Even that is not guaranteed, and they may not pay any severance at all going forward.

Yes, it is too bad you had to start off with all of this BS going on. It may be a test of patience and you will most likely see a lot of angry / irritated, let down people. Some in HP have seen this a few times before, but for those of us who haven't, it's a challenge. There are a lot of "management" types that have never had another job after college and they're in their late 40s or early 50s. They're old blood, have consumed the HP koolaid and need to go. They're bean counters, not about building the business. Trust no one, keep your head down and do your job. Sounds paranoid, but it's a paranoid environment you're in. HP isn't going to look out for you, rely on yourself. Best wishes to you.

It's a shame you had to start your career in a volatile work environment. I suggest you find somewhere else to work.

They're not gonna lay you off if you're a fresh graduate from school. You're valuable to them because they're not paying you a stupidly high salary and you're not on an outdated contract that doesn't benefit them. Remember, they need people to do work on a cheaper salary and you're in that category because nobody straight out of school is going to ask/get a high salary.

Son yeah, relax. Learn as much as you can and then leave for a better paying job. You're not going to get far staying long term in HP

Don't worry your are not on the w.f.r. list. It's going on for more than 18 months and did you ever wonder why they still hire you? I know a new hired by not HP and also a new grad from a school his starting salary was 60K per year and my guess is your is around 30K since you said you are now with HPE. Learn new things and skill as fast as you can. And then when you are ready to get your next job ask for 110K per year.
