WD is Loaded With Cash

Google says WD has $5 billion in cash. I don't understand - why lay off very talented professionals, some among the top in their field, when the company has so much money? Does anyone know? Thank you.

Is that a way to get out of our lawsuit with SanDisk? Just buy them lol?

I agree, it's freeing up additional cash flow for an upcoming acquisition. I have no insider info here and this is my own evaluation of the current situation at WD. SanDisk acquisition seems to be fairly certain to me.

Maybe WD will try to buy SanDisk and become an SSD company? http://www.barrons.com/articles/western-digital-sandisk-now-makes-more-sense-1432926608

Olivier Leonetti - the new CFO - should be able to answer that for you. He has a bunch of restricted stock units (RSU's) vesting on Sept. 8. But even his little pile of gold isn't enough to make a dent in the $5 billion, right Olivier? http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/106040/000119312514320073/d780103d8k.htm
