Guys, your posts are freaking anonymous....speak your mind and spill the beans. Shell is cutting more jobs than Chevron, BP, Conocophillips and Exxon combined and y'all are playing nice??? WTF! 30% job cuts in UA and more to come after the BG deal is closed.

Anonymous146666 if you believe that you map your own career at Shell then you are as stupid as your post appears to be. Shell is not a cutting edge company. We make lots of money on legacy technology and pencil whipping the EPCs. We just put new names to old products, like "Nitro" to make people buy our products. The real beneficiaries are in marketing.

Anonymous140041 it's sad to say but you are right. I've been at Shell, as an engineer, for a long time and now that I'm tweaking my resume I can honestly say that I haven't developed a damn thing. We are basically overpaid EPC bullies. What they promised when I was hired is not what I ended up doing. They never developed our professional skills... or even gave us opportunities to do so. Is this the same for other majors???
To Anonymous139597, get a hold of yourself. I really hope your family's wellbeing wasn't dependent on a job at Shell. Businesses aren't loyal to anyone, especially Shell. Until 1987 they'd had NO layoffs, and about 10 since. The mentality has changed and Shell's business model is now "use resources to make as much money as possible NOW and when you've used them up, drop them to the wayside ".
Pick yourself up, exploit your skills, and go to work for another company--or start your own. If you're an engineer..sorry to hear that because I know you haven't developed any engineering skill while working for Shell since we contract out all our engineering work.

Gs and JG5s don't get the use of the MOR. And the cutoff is a lot higher than 0.85 for them. I'm not angry with shell. I am just devastated for my family. What about our house? Our kids? There aren't any more jobs here.
