Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Guess what is tough for a lot of us is that if we get laid off we are out of options here in San Diego ......it will mean an unwanted move if

we want to work in the industry. A lot of us have spouses , houses kids ....you know a LIFE. ..... a LIFE that will be deeply affected.

Guess we thought we were here forever and maybe that was our mistake.....

It's TMC (too much competition) in San Diego: to me the key is to have right skills the job market demands and to be able to move if needed.

The next time a company gives two bits about what you think will be the first. That goes for you and all employees other than senior management.

Yep it is your mistake. You should be updating your resume on a regular basis. A company doesn't owe you shit except for a paycheck. Bonus and stock are a plus for working harder. If being laid off ruins your life its your own fault for not being prepared.

Never wise to put all eggs in one basket and move to a city where there's only one tech game in town. Even if you survive the layoff, it's time to seriously consider biting the bullet and moving up to Silicon Valley where the entire local economy isn't dependent on one company
