With fear of layoff , folks in my group worked very hard with their a$$. While I have seen some increasing backstabbing (which is natural as peers need to review each other)but currently the productivity is record high.
Even if we don't have layoff, it seems we do need fear of layoff and that is how my folks are working very hard these days and I love it.

Good point and I am sure this peak will not last long. I love it too because I will see many people in the job market and other companies can cherry pick the best in the pool.
Fear doesn't work .... it is a question about the quality of work and work culture.....the problem with QUALCOMM there are so many people who don't do real work ...many of the VPs, directors, managers are nothing more than project managers..... once they become "managers" their main job is to manage people and they will do hands on....some of them don't even want to make power points.... its pathetic...this culture has crept in many groups ....
Yeah this is something new to QUALCOMM "layoff news".... since two years there have been official layoffs but most people are not used to hearing of layoff.....
