116397: CA is a community property state. Most W. can get is 50% of all property, and earnings, benefits, etc. accumulated during the 10 years of marriage. Child support is calculated according to a mathematical formula written by lawyers, so it doesn't make sense. But unless you're freaking rich to begin with--in which case you should be grateful and spend the money--it's not much more than welfare.
