A friend of mine who was laid off recently said that the HR guy told him QC never does notifications on either Mondays or Fridays. Which means likely the day it starts will likely be either tomorrow thru Thurs. or a week from tomorrow, as the earnings call is a week from Wed.

The jobs are out there. Problem is that the number of H1Bs in San Diego have depressed STEM worker prices in San Diego. If you are a citizen, unless you are applying for a job that requires DoD clearance, it's difficult to convince people to spend the extra 20-30K to hire a U.S. citizen. Govt. contractor positions are usually soulless and totally lacking in creativity, though. Of course you could probably study for your realtor's license in a weekend....

Then again, they might do it on Monday or Friday for security reasons because people aren't expecting it. Employee sabotage is a very real possibility. The add-ons in addition to the WARN requirements most likely won't be so generous--if they exist at all. (There's no law that says they have to provide them.) And people are really pissed about the uncertainty and the generally hellish atmosphere at QC, these days. I laughed when I heard "Jebby" (Bush) on the radio this morning saying the we all need to work harder so we can meet our future economic goals. F*ck that! I already work close to 80 hrs. per week and rarely get to see my kids!
