Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QC is terrible at keeping ANYTHING confidential

Amazing how much stuff that no one except 10th floor should know ends up both on here, as well as the web in general. Are all big companies this bad at keeping things quiet before they're supposed to be announced? Or are we exceptionally bad at it?

JANA is really screwing over a lot of innocent people at QC. There is enough brainpower at QC to hack JANA's servers, and release enough of their "secrets" to return the favor by a factor of ten. Just saying....

I think this leak is deliberate and engineered by QC. The actual numbers of people impacted however is likely to be smaller than reported ~ 1500 I would guess.

People were mocking @biggie5k as insane a month or two ago. No leaks were necessary. Jana's letter and CNBC interview said it all

Big companies intentionally leak rumors for several reasons, for instance to guage the stock market reaction, to encourage people to leave, etc...

No, the numbers were not closely held secret (although even that should have been a bit more of a mystery), but the fact that we all can know, with such precision, not only that there are going to be layoffs, but within a very small window, WHEN they are going to happen, demonstrates a lack of confidentiality by folks in either HR or else senior execs who have been entrusted with this information and presumably told DO NOT TALK ABOUT THIS UNTIL IT HAPPENS!

So the 4000 number (which was 5000 a few months ago) was a closely held 10th Floor Secret?

Look at Baker Hughes and Target sites here - every single major cut since Jan 2015 was announced here at least a month in advance. Things leak, humans talk... Stephen Hawking: "For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk and we learned to listen..."

When it is whispered “don’t tell anybody”, it is probably meant to be passed around. This is how things are done in some cultures. QC’s got enough of those culture practices to have all sorts of rumors going around that are actually true.

Typical for big companies. I worked at Intel for 10 years and the same thing happened.
