Its not sport in most part of QCT its sweatshop where things are manipulated to put pressure and extract more work from engineers( workers?) then company pay for ( unpaid overtime)...and H1B has not much option other than surrender ( at least till they get their GC). To be fair its not true for all groups but in majority of them and I see situation turning way in last 3-4 years only..I believe this company grew much faster speed than its culture could adopt to....

Engineering is a skill set which favors young and long hours

This is like sports.. a sports men does not become great because he is playing for long time.. youngsters take over..

same thing happens with tech skills as well

I can guarantee you that an senior engineer is no less than a senior staff..

That's why qcom hires young n on h1b visa

H1B are providing cheap labour ( by working free overtime), This is against the sprit of H1B and company exploit it to full extent....QCOM only need to show that they are paying prevailing wages based on 40 hour work week but they actually want you to slog 80+ hours..

i hope that ALL h1bs are laid off and sent back to their own countries!

Anonymous115342

@Anonymous115342: Why such harsh words on H1B? Some day your forefathers would have come on immigration visa to this Country and you got born here. United state is immigrant country my friend. Accept the challenge and work hard. There is a reason why American companies are backing H1B and that is HARD-WORK. You should visit Japan/South Korea and then compare your self with them and see where you stand..

They. should layoff contractors and H1bs first. Citizens and perms should be shown loyalty. I bet the last time Irwin Jacobs and Obama had lunch Irwin told him it was hard to find engineers so he needed the h1b limit increased from 80,000 to unlimited.

After all these layoffs prove there is a shortage of engineers.

115438: You sound too young to worry about this so much. And job inertia eventually affects your marketable skills if you aren't careful. Sure, you might know a little bit about everything QC related, but how will that help if you want to work at Google? If you are that stressed, start circulating your resume and look for a job someplace else. Take the severance as a nice vacation bonus.

115301: Hell dude! HR has been gearing up for this since at least May! They even hired back extra people to can the RIF-ees! If they haven't printed out the COBRA and stock plan info for the intended RIF-ees, maybe the Q should jettison of few of their lazy @$$3s for spending too much time checking out this website, and Facebook, and Pinterest....

Also h1b are more than willing to work for 80+ hrs at the pay of 40 hours...improving companies bottomline

Qcom need more slaves so h1b would stay

There us no dearth of American engineers but still companies like qcom n msft push for more h1b the reason is very simple

H1bs are very pliant and can happily out in long how..

The actual announcement won’t happen before the earning report date. Doing anything before the reporting date will cause a reaction for suggesting a bad quarter.

I won't be surprised at all. Layoffs are normally conducted mid-week (Tues-Thur). That allows affected employees to get more information from HR representatives, health insurances etc during the next two or three business days before the weekend.
