Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

With 51% of Q's business in China. Why not just move most of the work to China?

....And be a chinese company.....It's inevitable if you want to play exclusively in that market...

My take on this:

Modem tech is getting commoditized same way as dialup,cable,DSL or any other modems..it's just how tech innovation cycle works. Cellular modem had longer shelf life because challenges to deal with fragmented bands and needed tech know how to deal need of universal/mobile connectivity, QCOM was ahead in the game and successfully monetized it so far but iPhone turned out to be disruptive and cellular modem start losing relevance much sooner than anyone anticipated.( and all projected numbers by biz folks..) ...

Qcom is already moving operations to low cost regions to align cost structure for anticipated huge chinese growth after settlement with chinese Gov.

Check out recent mass hiring in china and reduction in US...

One reason MediaTek is doing well is they are close to China (or part of China). They speak the same language, no time difference.

Of course, their cost is lower.
