Why do we need shuttle services between buildings.?

Just curious why do we need shuttles between buildings? I mean how many people actually need ed to go between buildings regularly and why can't people just drive themselves like every other normal employee does elsewhere. Must not be cheap to maintain all those vehicles and drivers, especially since some the vehicles are new

Why are we even debating about whether shuttles are needed? You people realize that to fly one of those damn corporate jets for 10 hours probably costs more than the shuttles do for a month, right? And that doesn't even include the depreciation and maintenance costs on the jets. Now, ask yourself HOW MANY PEOPLE the shuttles serve vs. the corporate jets.

And the debate about office supplies is just silly/stupid. Who cares if people are "stealing" supplies? There are always a few bad apples but it costs more to have someone police the supplies than it does to just provide them and ask people to be honest. Does Google monitor whether people "steal" the free snacks and eat them at home instead? The sum total of all of the office supplies "stolen" in a year is probably less than QCOM pays SM for 4 hours. And by the way, business owners and board members take advantage of (should I say "abuse"?) other perks that most people don't get. For example, they'll take the company car on a personal trip to the grocery store, with the company paying the gas, depreciation, and maintenance on the vehicle.

QCOM is making cuts in the wrong areas. Since SM hasn't executed well, it should cut a large portion of his RSU. Actually, it should have simply given him options instead, which would be underwater right now, and tied the strike price of the options to any share repurchases (the more shares repurchased, the higher the strike price) to prevent gaming the system with stock buybacks.

114198: Practically speaking, if they didn't have someone guarding the supply room, you just know that someone from the "cube farm" would be ripping off everything from paper, pens and white board markers, to ink cartridges for printers, and selling them on eBay. And it would probably be a PM.

@114195: That's because they are all former QC engineers who were laid off last November! Retiring on the income from those RSUs hasn't quite panned out the way they hoped. And they aren't full-time employees; QC rents them from Uber, and leased the buses from Hertz!

While office supply is not big cost items, people who would take little things would also take big things. When they find it so easy to take advantage of the system, they look for something bigger. When you get to know those people, you will find that they really maximize what they can get from QC. Nothing wrong most of time, except that they are stealing in some cases.

Why do we even need a large stock room? At most normal companies, if someone needs some supply, there's a budget and the administrative assistant orders it from one of the many suppliers. I mean the only time when such a large stock room is needed is right before back to school, when all the employees probably go there to raid the stationary supplies for their kid(s)....

perhaps start by looking at how much cost savings are required to get margins > 25%. then figure out how many books or gallons of gas or cans of soda that is.

I totally agree on the walking. But I figure that since in SoCal, many people end up driving to the gym and spend several minutes in the parking lot trying to find the closest parking space before they enter the gym to burn off unncessary calories, that the same sort of logic would apply to people who feel they need to drive between buildings instead of walking. In any case, why are shuttles necessary? It makes no sense to employ drivers for the sake of just providing employment when the utility of that service isn't even used or necessary. Sure doesn't seem to justify keeping drivers and shuttle service around while layoff engineers.....In fact, I think the Q should seriously review the facilities budget...

Why do we need so many people employed in the stock room/supply room? And really, do we need a library?

It generates jobs for the drivers idiot, your are targeting the weakest employees who really, really need the job. Cut the fat somewhere else !

Why can't you walk between buildings? It would give you all a chance to work off those free sodas. Plus the fat managers, directors, VPs, etc. might die off before SM has to make decisions about the "fat" to be cut from the management side.
