I think the VP and people who are really good at software realize that QC is heading in the wrong direction in focusing on chip and putting software in the real far back seat on the bus, especially when chip margins are only going to get worse, and the only way to really distinguish is on the software front. It not the first time I've heard linux and android people jump ship recently. And people with those skills, in the current market, can find much better opportunities elsewhere. Cyanogen is a very interesting company. They aren't "dying"...We'll see where they go from here, but they are well funded by VCs.

You really need to look out for yourself in tough times. It is eminently clear that Qualcomm is not an employee-friendly company any more. If an employer retains everybody in a tough economy and tries to save money in other ways, then you could perhaps claim that it is wrong to jump ship when the company hit some turbulence. I think the VP bloke who left is perfectly justified in jumping ship. In fact, he is one of the smarter ones. He avoided being one among many when thousands are inevitably shown the door in the coming weeks
Agree, any senior level guy jumping ship in this tough time is a loser..
I don't know this guy but If this guy was running Linux team SUCCESSFULLY then it's definitely a loss... but may be this guy played bubble and sold short term success successfully.. and jumping the ship when things it's tough time when all weaknesses of management is coming under scrutiny ...I call it running from accountability and opportunistic attitude.
I second that. He was a good guy and its a loss for QC. And if people like that are leaving, what does that tell you about things moving forward?
He certainly is not the loser VP. He was the only VP or Sr director that was essential to running the Linux teams. It is a big loss. All the rest should have left instead, the day to day Linux activities would not have been impacted at all.
