Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

This is no layoff...

What Shell is doing is going beyond layoffs. From my understanding if you are let go, you will never be able to come back to the company... ever. This is no layoff. This is more like an extermination. We are being punished while the bad decision makers take first class trips and burn through the project budgets. This poses a HUGE competitive disadvantage once the market stabilizes and their best talents are working for the other guys.

Just confirmed. Business need or not you can't come back... not even as a contractor. Shell just flushed its talent.

I was told that you can come back if the business dictates a need. I was part of the 2014 divestment in WY.......glad I didn't go to PA or Houston. Deja vu!

From what I understand if you go back within a certain period then you may have to return your severance if you want to rejoin the pension fund but I may be wrong. Either way, who would WANT to go back????

I have no clue why they are doing this, it seems that Chevron did the same thing (based on comments on this site)

Told me the same thing during 2014 layoffs. I was in the Denver office and family obligations didn't allow me to move.
