Thread regarding CH2M Hill Cos layoffs

I Too Was Laid Off

The Copration has gone thru several rounds of layoffs over the last few years. In late 2014 they tried to trim the headcount by forcing retirement on certain employees. When that did not work, they announced the 05% reduction. I got swept up in one the 2015 rounds of layoff's. I hear that there are more layoffs coming in August 2015. They also recently fired the President of their Energy/Oil and Gas Division as well. I can confirm, that as of a few months ago, it was indeed their intent to return to their "core values", which means getting away from EPC - Oil ang Gas type projects. They are VERY risk averse.

Yep!! The other companies know how CH2 treats their employees in Alaska!! I know because for months I have been asked questions. They knew a lot, it was shocking.. will not name companies, but they are, or used to be clients of Ch2. Well, the whole town seems to know.. not good.

Agreed. They locked a managers door before he came in that morning. How bad is that!! He was a producer also for 20 years.. There is better ways to do it besides treating people like criminals. Some managers like to threaten, and insult also. It has spread to other companies where I live. I was shocked at what the other companies knew. I did not comment. Doesn't help.

As a manager at CH I have to say I am not impressed. I was laid off after doing their dirty work. 20 years down the drain and now treated like a criminal. I don't think they will last long in the oil and gas industry in Alaska. The word is out on the street.

Not only do they not know what they are doing but when they lay you off, they treat you like you've been fired. I've worked in this business for over 30 years and have never once been treated like a criminal. They lied to our manager up until the last minute before the layoffs occurred , and laid him off. He had been there 20 years and was the most like one there. Raises were frozen except for their chosen few. As for as I'm concerned I hope they go bankrupt.

I see CH getting out of oil and gas as well. Or at least they should. They do not want to listen to experienced people that have been doing it for years. Their Houston office has huge turnover and they do not do as the client wants. Their reputation is not good and they tend to not utilize the talent they land and keep the subpar talent. Their rates are not competitive with the other E&C companies in Houston and Anchorage. Most of all they just do not get it. Their attitude is, "we're CH2MHill we are going to show you how it's done!" When you are competing with Fluor, Technip, Jacobs, Foster Wheeler, Wood Group/Mustang and WorleyParsons you better know what you are doing. Unfortunately CH doesn't have a clue.
