Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

The Irony of this Website...

The irony of all the posts here is that when ITT finally goes tits up, I doubt any of their employees will know about and it will come as a complete surprise to pretty much all of them. I have this hunch most of them have their head in the sand and feel like it could never happen while the CEOs and top management does their best to hide assets and shield themselves from the coming clawbacks and lawsuits.

There is no 131, but assuming you meant OP the only reason was night classes. I needed a place to go after work and the vast majority of jobs require you to be there during the morning/day. The local community college and universities only offered morning classes, and since rent came first, no real options.

131 - Why did you enroll in ITT- Tech in the first place? Did you research other schools? I hear that some students enroll because a grandfather or uncle hired ITT-Tech graduates back in the '70s when it was apparently a better school. Some current students even graduated from ITT-Tech with a degree a couple decades ago and got a great job, but feel they need to update their skills. Some students are interested in buying a degree, and just want the Associate credential for a pay raise. Not all students are ignorant or gullible, some are informed but chose ITT anyway (often veterans who aren't scared by high cost, since they have benefits.) In your case, what would you have done differently in hindsight?

1026- Nobody really thinks EVERY teacher there is terrible or out to screw people, but you have to look at the end result. I went for ISS program, and trying to find a job in that field is a joke. The curriculum was not sufficient and the total lack of certifications means no company out there will give you a chance. The raw debt load the school dumps on students is nothing short of life destroying. There is no way anybody is going to pay it back, and they knew it all along. Regardless if you show up and teach your ass off or not, unless they come out of the gate making $85,000 a year they aren't paying the loans and they will just keep piling up forever.

Not all the employees are ignorant. As an adjunct faculty, I know. Some of us keep hoping things will get better -- after all, Modany did "resign" last summer. Some of the curriculum has gotten better, But then Modany and Fitzgerald carry out their crazy love fest on the investors conference call a few days ago. And there still seems to be virtually no one on executive team or board who has real experience in education, other than business side. It does seem that few people have a clue that there is a huge difference between quality technical education and meaningful student services, versus cheap education and salespeople as "counselors." Full time academic positions keep disappearing to save money, so nearly all full time employees on campus are salespeople! Makes me feel a little sick to my stomach. I listen to students experiences, and wonder where is a meaningful alternative for these students? Who is their advocate? Many have tried community colleges. They are not all slackers, by any mean. And not all instructors are uncaring and incompetent. We all want a reasonable alternative that combines best of ITT-Tech format and schedule, with reasonable cost to students, and plenty of legitimate support services for unique and challenging personal issues many students have.

I think you went to UoP? I went to ITT and I will tell you that everyone from the front desk bimbos to the new weekly intern in the career services department to the teachers themselves are not invested in this place. Most of them probably don't even know how to turn on a computer and the teachers at least often don't care because they make so little teaching that it is mostly just gas money or their car payment for a few months. None of them rely on ITT Tech for their full income and even multiple of their past financial aid people have commented on myittexperience about the graft that goes on there. Mark my words, the day this place finally gets shut down there probably won't even be any news here from people in the company.

Seems more like pathos than irony. In either case, it does seem as if many of the remaining workers and students are so disconnected that they don't see the ship sinking.
