Pick about 20 Q engineers. Ask each one "do you have any relatives working at Q" Chances are atleast 30% of them will say my wife, husband, father, father in law, brother, sister, cousin" works were. Amazing number of couples working here. If you ask them further how they their significant other (or relative) in, they will tell you that they knew someone who go them in (with namesake interview process for formailty reason). This is very strange. The current place I work (and few others before I joined Q) have strict against having a couple in the same division let alone in same group. When I was at Q, My group lead/manger hired folks and pushed them in my team and in some cases I could not understand how this person got through the interview process. Unqualified folks are hired (not sure based on what...nepotism, someone they know?) and thrusted on good performers to train/fix them bringing the good performers down.. I am not sure if Q has any policy related to relationship in office or against nepotism... It is always OK to recommend friends and family. But should the proper hiring process ensure the candidate is qualified for the job? Does Q follow any labor laws?

More than 70% of workforce in Qualcomm are Indians.
From my experience in QC, most hiring managers prefer to hire candidates based off reccomendations, rather than going to through the resume pile, and going through the due process, to hire the best candidates.
So it isnt just relatives or friends, but often coworkers from a former company, that get preferential treatment..
Here is an example: Director friend of manager, manager friend of a tech, tech buddy of all 2. All from same country but no contributions from any of three...,from same country.....
You guys are f***ing stupid...talking about nepotism with indians and chinese...are you blind to see that the whole Jacobs family was the executive management at one point, including PJ's ex-wife. Do you know know that Bill Keitel's family also is in Qualcomm including his 17yr old daughter who did internship under Qualcomm doctor? Do you not know what even the CFO before Bill has also his whole family in Qualcomm? Do you not know what Dan Sullivan's daughters are at Qualcomm including his son-in-law in QCT finance?...and you talk about nepotism for engineers, look at the leaders.
god I dont want to work in the same company as my relatives...i get enough of them on weekends and at home...morons!
Have to agree with this as well. I've moved around in the last 10 years at Q and invariably every single team was dominated clearly by the same pattern of favoritism in the hiring process. I remember how one team always knew the new hires very well, once even saying "he's from the same village as us back home"! Perfectly fine to recommend friends and family but not when you favor them over others.
I'm surprised there has yet been no class action lawsuits against Q regarding this.
Yeah. Our senior VP mr MC hired his high school buddy as sr director. They are now ruling our dept. they are Caucasian but run the group like, PTE, like a chop shop. Nepotism is there no matter color of the skin.
I was PIPed out twice. First one didn't get the results they wanted so they tried again and succeeded. This followed a 16-year career at Q.C. Working in a dept that had husband/wives(4 couples) brother/sisters reporting to the same director.
Nope I think you are delusional. I am a senior staff engineering director of middle management and I just hired my buddy from college fraternity to be a manager that reports under me. We know it's doesn't take a lot to manage you monkys. He comes in at 2 and leaves at 3pm, he is the one that drives the Porsche. Now all of you get back to work!!!
I have seen this first hand. A lot of husband wife, father son, brothers.. and quite a few of them utterly incompetent as well
I am the OP. My comment and observation when I was at Q is not directed to Indians... I observed this at various groups (ALL RACES) and it is the HR that is solely responsible for this situation. HR seems to be not doing their job properly.
