What are the ways to search jobs in San Diego? Is linkedin sufficient or should we contact some placement professional? I tried to search through this forum for similar question in last 3 days but did not find relevant to my question.

Many companies specifically exclude applications submitted by executive search firms or "headhunters." First, get your resume in shape. It should be 1 or 2 pages, max. If you could possibly qualify for 2 different types of positions, make 2 separate resumes. (E.g., one for manager, one for sys/admin.) Save resume in pdf format so you can easily attach it to employer's websites and emails when you network. LinkedIn doesn't really do it as a job search site--although you need some form of media for optimum access to certain job sites. So just use it to post your resume and a flattering head shot. Good general job sites to start are Dice and Career Builder. As you search for jobs, various search engines will actually locate you. Google the search engine and find out if it's legitimate and appropriate for your needs. Networking... C'mon guys, this is San Diego. We are the capital of craft beer! Surely you can get together with friends and compare notes. But you can also do things using the internet to help. If you are laid off and have extra time, start a technical blog. Update your LinkedIn resume to include a link. Write articles for or participate in online technical sites. Most of all, don't limit yourself. The best jobs may not be in San Diego--or even Silicon Valley.

Thanks for reply. I am looking for ways to reach out recruiters. I am trying to figure out ways of getting hold of them.
Initially I read SV as Sorrento Valley, then realized you meant Silicon Valley.
Regarding moving: Unfortunately with time, constraints increase and binds one to a place. Its hard (but not impossible) to unbind and move. So I am still interested in trying to see what options do we have to stay here in san diego and still work in good paying software/embedded jobs. Please share ideas.
You might have to consider leaving this area. SV has many more job openings. However, if you are in HW, chip companies have been suffering and have limited hiring. It just took QC a bit longer to see the slowdown in chip sales. That might have put us QC employees at a disadvantage.
Thanks. Any suggestions on how to contact recruiters? Which websites to go for contacting them?
I'd reach out to recruiters and let them do some of the heavy lifting. Lots more jobs in Bay though.
