Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Here are your choices

I have been through this a few times. If you are close to retirement, wait it out, take the severance and enjoy retirement. If you need to work and want to stay in San Diego, don't wait get your resume out there before the layoffs start happening. Based on the board changes it is unlikely that Qualcomm will have much of an engineering presence in S.D. in three years. So even if you feel secure now, it is probably an illusion. Unfortunately San Diego has always been a hardware oriented town. There isn't much venture capital aimed at hardware these days. If you don't mind relocating then just wait it out, take the severance and move to the Bay area, Texas, etc. This reminds me of when General Dynamics left town. They were bigger than Qualcomm folks and disappeared in what seemed like overnight. Based on the General Dynamics reference you can probably guess what choice I am making.

So true: "So even if you feel secure now, it is probably an illusion."
