Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

HR's response

I wonder how HR would respond if I volunteered to be laid off. I wonder if I'd still receive a severance.

Definatly a lot of family that works together in this company.. A few who may not be blood related but thru marriage.. It still causes havoc for other folks

I too find it odd. Some go as far as using their maiden name so no one will know their significant other works at another location where they once worked at and still meddling. Don't forget to put your wedding ring back on.

That is one thing I did find rather odd, was the amount of people who were related to someone or had pull in a department they no longer worked. I met one person who had five other family members working for the NOV, locally. Also, this person moved to another office, yet would still meddle in business in the office which they previously worked.

Would love to volunteer as well provided there would be severance pay, getting out of redneckville would be a dream come true. Job is easy money but time to get back to the real world, a place where you must use your brain and every other co-worker is not related.

Wondering this as well, layoff wouldn't hurt me as much as it would hurt others. But approaching HR with the proposal to volunteer makes me nervous.

How is she/he being pathetic and not "wanting to work"? Maybe they're ready to move on but would rather do so with a nice juicy severance package. Let's be honest, NOV isn't the end all/be all to life.

Pathetic! There are people losing their jobs. If you really do not want to work and rather volunteer to be laid off then why don't you just go for it. You might just save someone who's about to lose their job by giving up yours. I dare ya!
