Thread regarding Zenith Education Group layoffs

Stop Harassing the Instructors and let us do our Jobs

The OP is correct about the 24-hour timeframe for grading. Midnight Sunday to midnight Wednesday is 72 hours, but subtract 24 hours for sleeping (8 hours/night), 9 hours for showering, bathroom breaks, lunch, and dinner breaks (3 hours/day), and 3 hours for time with their families. I think everyone should be allowed one hour a day to spend with their children. That leaves 36 hours. Subtract another 12 hours for mandatory outreach (2 hours/day of phone calls, emails, text messages and responding to emails in eCollege and then putting all outreach efforts in Talisma) and mandatory 20% participation in discussions (2 hours/day, or just 30 minutes a day per class, for teachers with full schedules) to stay off the reports, and that leaves 24 hours for grading, or about 8 minutes per essay, many of which are pages and pages long. In addition, instructors provide group tutoring and individual tutoring for their own students, plus the students of adjuncts and PLs, who are not required to provide either. It adds up to 36 hours of work the first three days of the week for full time faculty. After working three 12-hour shifts back-to-back, knowing they will have to put in at least 8 more hours every Thursday and Friday, plus a few more hours every Saturday and Sunday, the negative "constructive feedback" emails are not going to be well-received. Teachers know "what they missed." They made the conscious decision to log out of the classroom and try to maintain a healthy work-life balance that does not include working more than twelve hours a day. To the OP: Don't let the PLs and PDs get you down. Most instructors I know ignore them and focus on the students, and doing what needs to be done to provide them with a good education. The management is out of touch with their remote staff, and how much work is expected of them. They rely on the "X style" of management, where they assume teachers are lazy and don't work very much. This is far from the truth. I'm confident that, with the "telemarketer mentality" management now out of the picture, there will be a greater focus on education and faculty support, and less trivial and mean-spirited criticisms of the faculty. Hang in there

555 that's easier said than done. There are no "good" students that want to enroll in these schools. The good students as you call them enroll in a traditional college not in a career school. You sound like Dave Hawn thinking that adding non-profit to the name makes them legitimate schools. Sorry to burst your bubble, Zenith Education is in it to make money. Take a look around and you will see that the "losers" make up a large percentage of the student population at all the schools. If they dump the "losers" you and a few thousand more employees would be dumped also. My suggestion to you would be to find another place to work soon if you don't like begging students to come to class. Outreach is not going away and neither are the "losers" because they can't. With student population so low outreach is only going to get worse. With enrollment at an all-time low the recruiters are being forced to enroll anything that is breathing. Don't worry though, everyone will be "dumped" by the end of the year.

Searching - you said it well. I absolutely HATE the word "outreach" and I'm getting tired of hearing it. All of the outreach in the world does you no good if you're not enrolling quality students in the first place. Dump the losers and enroll good students. I received my degrees online and was never "reached out" to. Why? Because I DID MY WORK!! I don't have time to deal with losers. Enroll winners like the non-profit private universities do.

476 it's called survival. If they don't keep the students that are already enrolled there will be no students. Everyone should be used to this from the last few years of CCI. It's no different now than it was then, student equals revenue which is what it takes to keep the schools operating. I personally hope that everyone that wants the slackers and the poorly educated students to leave get your wish because without those students the Zenith Circus will shut down. That would be best for everyone since most of the employees are so unhappy working for Zenith and the students wouldn't be ripped off.

476: Relax!! Your students paid their money. Dave is happy to have the revenue. Be happy you still have a job - for now!!

358: At the risk of highlighting the obvious, there is one clear reason for the change: Cashflow. Reducing course length allows the school to run more students through the mill, generating more Title IV money. Nothing else is as important......

Well, a lot of schools have a 72 hour grading turn around. But they also don't have the outreach required here as well as a social media posting requirement. I'm no longer at Zenith, but I heard through the grapevine courses online are going to be moved to a six week format which is the worst thing they can do. Are they changing the curriculum or just cramming all 12 weeks into 6 weeks like the mini courses do? The students can't even keep up with four 12 week courses and now you want them to handle four 6 week courses? This just sets everyone up for failure as it is double work for all - students AND teachers.

SEARCHING: Your chronological mathematical model is absolutely correct - and will result in zero change that benefits you. The schools are,in survival mode. The only changes that will happen short term are those that increase revenue or decrease cost in a hurry. ECMC/Zenith may be non-profit, but the still have to be able to pay the bills - a difficult task right now at many campuses.

You're the idiot 192 because you still believe in Dave "the big prick" Hawn. We'll see how you feel when you get your walking papers. Loyalty and dedication mean nothing to the assholes running the circus. The lack of students will eventually shut your show down.

We all know what is going on. Reps are enrolling crap and teachers try to teach them. Soon enough the teachers will have no one to teach and everyone will be happy.

OP. Ignore the two idiots. We and others know what's really going on. The CCI crooks are here. Let's see what Dave will do with them.
