Just received a mailing from QCOM RE the 2016 & 2017 health insurance plan. External website does not appear to be accessible yet. Does anyone know if taking the biometric screening and filling out the health questionnaire is a requirement for the Plan or just for the HSA? What does this biometric screening test for? Since most biometric screenings require a blood draw, can I have the forms filled out by MY physician instead of having some hack hired by Qualcomm do it, who will invariably turn over my genetic material to QCOM for the company's use--which may include anything from firing me based on genetic markers, to using my genetic material in testing for development of their IP? Just curious. HR/Benefits doesn't seem to know the answers to these questions. They're probably still kicking it around in legal to decide how to shut down this line of questioning.

No worry, just a regular check. They just want to make sure you have a perfect condition. QCOM cares about your health more than you do.
Great.... If my blood pressure goes up because the RSUs I worked my @$$ off for are suddenly worthless, I now have to pay more for my family's health insurance? Let's all blow this "chip-sicle" stand....
But even if that doesn't discriminate against people with preexisting conditions, if your employer pays more for your health insurance and related benefits, there is a greater incentive to terminate these people first during layoffs, to cut costs. Even if the policy is neutral this also discriminates against people who have disabilities.

They are probably trying to get a discount on the health cost. Insurance companies cannot charge you more for a preexisting health condition, which would be illegal, and so, they are working another angle to give discount if you are healthy. It is just another way to skin a cat. It is similar to gas stations not charging you more for using a credit card but will give you a discount for cash.
