Thread regarding Career Education Corp. layoffs

Townhall Waste of Time

Well listening to Ron McCrsy stammer his way through the his presentation could only be surpassed by asinine questions from corporate dweebs.

The one brilliant question was "Wouldn't it better if you just immediately shut down all the Sanford-Brown campuses? That way the students can have all the loans forgiven."

Another moronic question asked to McCray was from an LCB FA rep who asked if LCB was sold would "her job" be safe. SMH

Other topics when are you going to start inline promotions, when do we get raises and will I still be reimbursed for tuition.

The lack of empathy or understanding from the corporate dweebs is that when all is said and done and all campuses closed, well over 1000 people will be out work.

CECO is in major trouble. The lack of discussion on this page indicates that chance for reform is extremely low. The two reamining brands are extremely vulnerable................

CEC is totally incapable of managing educational institutions or any. Both AIU and CTU remain afloat only because of they are distanced from CEC, they frankly don't need CEC for much of anything (marketing, management, accreditation). Now that CEC is going to "focus" on them they to may end up upside down. Briar Cliff, Brooks, and Harrington never fit the CEC model mainly because they didn't offer worthless "certificates" or pointless degrees and each has educated educators serving students. LCB is exactly what it claims to be, does what it says it does; the fact that an education at LCB cost too much and that CEC stopped investing in and improving facilities and equipment, and gainful employment is a potential real problem doesn't make worth it for CEC.

The "ghost tower" CEC HQ occupants and most of the Sanford Brown, much of both AIU and CTU is are either incest children of the for-profit industry (failed elsewhere and joined CEC) or perhaps worse hold "advanced" degrees from a for-profit school (often a CEC school)! Work for CEC and you to can 'earn' a useless degree.

The real laughable moments in Ron's bumbling oral discourse where when he framed CEC as a leader - a leader of what closing schools!?! Let's see in the past few years 3 failed CEO's, numerous failed EVP's & VP's, Marketing failure after failure, Admissions hog tied, campuses under funded and ineptly supported quite the profile of leadership! Perhaps CEC could sell this as "best practice".

@screwedover

You hit the nail on the head with the totally incompetent marketing team and the completely ineffective marketing campaigns.

The ghost tower as you put it, cut marketing dollars and leads but still kept the highly unrealistic enrollment goals. When admissions had problem getting their numbers they were told to concentrate on re-enrolls. Many of these re-tread students came in under SAP and never lasted more than one or two terms. One the drops went up the pressure was on Academics to explain why are retention number was dropping.

Regardibg the town hall, I laughed out loud when McCray was asked if he knew how many people were being laid off and he said he didn't know. Really? Your the CEO and you know what dollar number you need to return profitability but you have no clue on how many people need to be gone to get you huge payroll savings.

What a goof!

CEC is clearly in trouble, if it were not for recent program accreditations and reaccreditations being successful (no thanks to CEC!!!) the Federal Financial aid would go away and nothing they own would be worth a penny. Speaking of being worth a penny, that is twice what their crack Marketing/Branding department/staff is worth - they haven't had a single successful effort/campaign in years and the new stuff looks like crap.

If they want to make money they should sell the "corporate center building" how much space do you need to staff a sinking ship anyway? That luxury ghost tower is huge, costly and a waste from the top floor exec suites to the lower level cafeteria!

You should go back and listen to the town hall on-line. The questions "Wouldn't it be better if you just immediately shut down all the Sanford-Brown campuses" didn't come from Corporate. It came from a Sanford-Brown school. The raises and in-line promotions came from the CTU school that will be surviving the cuts. And you're right, that part was appalling.
