Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Some thoughts on how things played out

OK, time to look at the big picture: (1) We've known for a year that there were serious improprieties and that many government agencies wanted us shut down, so nothing happened out of the blue. (2) Many of us were lucky enough to work for campuses purchased by Zenith. We need to realize that the honeymoon period is over and that Zenith will be making significant changes, especially to leadership, to shift our culture. Be productive and ethical - no more business as usual if you want to keep being employed, (3) To those who are now laid off - good luck in your future. I hope that you've been actively seeking work for the year that you knew this would happen. It's a tough employment market out there, but keep on going and it will eventually work out. (4) No matter whether you're still employed or not, at least feel lucky that you aren't a complete loser and waste of space like some of the unemployed losers who have been living on this site the past few months (Camden Kid, you worthless creep, I'm looking at you). I've never worked with anybody at CCi/Zenith who was as big an idiot as those numbskulls.

Wyotech's strength has always been its education. Even knowing of Corinthian's folly, my son enrolled. The education has been outstanding -- but the processes of management at WyoTech was deficient. And not the WyoTech's personnel but the clunky protocols and procedures each time I called. Who do I talk to about this, or that? Questions answered best via my perseverence to reach those who could explain/guide or transfer me. Turnover in staff lead to extra calls due to lack of continuity.

Yet the professionals in management who've weathered (upper) management turnovers (5? 6?) in the past 20+ years knew how to keep the ship sailing smoothly -- how to retain students and quality education. Glen, in particular, reassured me/us and so far; his wisdom was sound.

New management -- are you intelligent enough to retain good people? Considering the cost of tuition, the WyoTech program should work. WyoTech is still an amazing technical school. New management needs to carefully consider how unique and amazing WyoTech is. New management, I charge you to: a) Be competent in your fiduciary duty to the students, employees and community; b) To respectfully allow the long-time pros who love and know WyoTech to do their jobs- with ample authority and resources; c) To coordinate information among new personnel; and d) retain WyoTech's reputation for educational excellence.

Education is WyoTech's strength. Retain and build upon the reputation and the students will return. And while your are at it, improve administrative protocols.

(One way to improve profit is to institute some kind of a gift shopwith online shopping. Think: what major college university does NOT have one? Or professional sports team? While a 1-year school may have different loyalties than a 2 or 4 year institutions the numbers are high enough to merit it. Get adequate variety - sizing, products with the Brand.)

You may be next! Don't feel so confident that you will keep your job!. Until zenith changes their school names you are still on the same shitty boat I work at denver call center and believe me %90 of my "potential students" calls don't want information because of what they read or heard about Everest!! So before you think you're going to make this place your career...Think again!

It really makes me sick to find out that schools are setting up camp to try to lure you to their schools. Please I know you've been through a lot but do your research before heading to a new school. UEI struggled and is a horrible school they lied on placements too. If you're a MA and choose north west college you will not be able to take your CMA or RMA because their curriculum is sub par (old curriculum).

To the students this affected please do your homework before signing on to a new school. The vultures are out there like UEI and North West to gladly take you on. Right now they are seeing $$$$$. Read their yelps do your homework before signing a new agreement. Don't go from bad to worse

That anyone is surprised it took a year for the shoe to drop astounds me. There was no other outcome.

You talk about the ones that were lucky enough to transition to Zenith. I am one of those so called lucky ones. I have been with Wyotech for 15 years, many before CCi bought them. All through the bs last year I held out hope because I knew what Wyotech used to be and hoped a new owner could restore it to what it once was. I am 59 years old and this past Wednesday I was rewarded for all my dedication and loyalty I had for Wyotech when I was handed my walking papers. This giant RIF was orchestrated by Michael Stigshit who is the most arrogant ruthless SOB I've ever met. So at 59 I must now start searching for a new job. That's how it went for myself and a thousand other "lucky ones" that thought they could make a difference. My recommendation to the rest of you "lucky ones" continue to search for a new job and don't pass up a good opportunity. You may just find yourself rewarded for your dedication like the one thousand of us were on Wednesday.

No, the improprieties came from workers, as well. Someone had to adjust those grades, career services stats, and attendance sheets.

To those of you who have spent the week soul searching, just know that you did nothing wrong. All of the lying, cheating and stealing came from management, not front line workers. Even Admissions were under ridiculous pressure to sign up "students" from the lazy, unmotivated, crude pool that our advertising appealed to. We were set up for failure by Jack & Co and his hand-picked managers, directors and VPs at all locations were willing to do anything to keep the gravy train rolling. They didn't care about the students and they didn't care about us. We can hold our heads high and know that we bent over backwards trying to make the system work, and we owe those assholes nothing. God, I hope that that some of them try to apply at my new place of work. I really want to be part of swatting them down.
