Thread regarding ECMC layoffs

You Were Told!

Yesterday Corinthian Colleges Inc. announced that it will immediately lay off its workforce and close its remaining 28 campuses, including Everest College Phoenix, Heald College, and its Everest and WyoTech campuses in California and New York. Corinthian said that it no longer has sufficient funds to continue operating the schools, and it is working with students to help them transfer to other institutions.

As a result of the closure of Everest College Phoenix, most Zenith employees at the Tempe Service Center will also be laid off, effective today. In keeping with the federal WARN Act, eligible employees will be provided with 60 days of pay continuance, including benefits. In addition, Zenith will provide severance payments at the end of the 60 day period to eligible employees.

Most services currently provided in Tempe will be transferred to Zenith’s Tampa Service Center. We will maintain a skeleton crew to assist with wind-down services at the Tempe site for the next few weeks.

We appreciate the service that our Tempe colleagues have provided, and wish them well as they transition to new opportunities.

What is "wiped"? Does that means the debt "goes away" when free public is announced?

Money (earned, owed, borrowed, spent) doesn't go away. It hits somebody's account and net worth. Who is the winner and the loser if "wiped" happens?

Going to laugh when free public is announced.. Its going to happen which also means wiping the trillion of worthless baggage 40 million working class people are stuck with and will never pay.

ECMC is looking to buy what is internally referred to as Everest+ which includes all Everest Ground, Online and WyoTech. Heald, Quickstart and Canada will be sold separately as individual school groups to other buyers. ECMC is not just buying student debt. The sale of Everest+ is not final but very close, the final "T's & I's" need to be completed and the DOE must sign off on the buyer. (Which shouldn't be a problem because ECMC is the debt collector the DOE contracts for their student loans) Jobs at CSC are not guaranteed "safe" once a sale is finalized. There will be further review of staffing level and department needs prior to a transition should the sale get approved.

Like I said. ECMC doesn't do education. Since their chop shop runs the layoff numbers under the D of Labor radar, consider this your WARN notice
