Thread regarding Zenith Education Group layoffs

Before the grammar police come after me, just keep in mind that I have more important things to do than waste any more time in here than I already have.

Being laid off was a hard pill to swallow. After two months and getting a job at real school, that cares about students, and not profit, I now realize getting laid off was a good thing. I never felt good about what CCI/Zenith did. It is a conflict of interest when a school is trying to profit off of students. I realize ECMC/Zenith is non-profit, but it really does not seem like the priorities are any different than CCi.

I now work for a State school that holds students to high standards, and if the students do not meet that standards, they are dismissed. My advice to to all the faculty on this board is to get out of the for profit education business, and teach at a real school. You will feel so much better about the work you do, and the students you are teaching.

I am so glad I was among the last RIF, I can finally put this circus behind me. You are all a bunch of whining cry babies that have nothing else to do but bitch about your bosses and jobs. The only way Zenith will ever turn around is to get rid of all the old CCi employees and start over.

The OP is correct about the 24-hour timeframe for grading. Midnight Sunday to midnight Wednesday is 72 hours, but subtract 24 hours for sleeping (8 hours/night), 9 hours for showering, bathroom breaks, lunch, and dinner breaks (3 hours/day), and 3 hours for time with their families. I think everyone should be allowed one hour a day to spend with their children. That leaves 36 hours. Subtract another 12 hours for mandatory outreach (2 hours/day of phone calls, emails, text messages and responding to emails in eCollege and then putting all outreach efforts in Talisma) and mandatory 20% participation in discussions (2 hours/day, or just 30 minutes a day per class, for teachers with full schedules) to stay off the reports, and that leaves 24 hours for grading, or about 8 minutes per essay, many of which are pages and pages long. In addition, instructors provide group tutoring and individual tutoring for their own students, plus the students of adjuncts and PLs, who are not required to provide either. It adds up to 36 hours of work the first three days of the week for full time faculty. After working three 12-hour shifts back-to-back, knowing they will have to put in at least 8 more hours every Thursday and Friday, plus a few more hours every Saturday and Sunday, the negative "constructive feedback" emails are not going to be well-received. Teachers know "what they missed." They made the conscious decision to log out of the classroom and try to maintain a healthy work-life balance that does not include working more than twelve hours a day. To the OP: Don't let the PLs and PDs get you down. Most instructors I know ignore them and focus on the students, and doing what needs to be done to provide them with a good education. The management is out of touch with their remote staff, and how much work is expected of them. They rely on the "X style" of management, where they assume teachers are lazy and don't work very much. This is far from the truth. I'm confident that, with the "telemarketer mentality" management now out of the picture, there will be a greater focus on education and faculty support, and less trivial and mean-spirited criticisms of the faculty. I find it ironic that the person who does not want to properly grade and teach has the audacity to call another employee lazy for giving her students a real college education. The person who brought up APA cares about her students well being. Nicole, maybe you need to take a look in the mirror before you start name calling.

Wow! Interesting how the simple comments from a PL who seems to care about our students lead to her being bashed! As an instructor myself I didn't take offense to her comments! Actually her comments make sense! Maybe that is why so many of my students are upset with me when I grade their papers and hold them accountable! I often get the response that no other instructor has required that! Actually her comments also helped to address the issue of APA format! Is it what we really need to focus on! I appreciate her concern for the students education! Sounds like most of you are more concerned with the paycheck and not the students! I am here because I want to see the students succeed! Why are you here!

Well maybe if you instructors would do your JOB which is to make sure students are getting the best education possible and also be sure they KNOW and FOLLOW the APA format then maybe no one would have to be a "nasty bitch" to any of you. If you can not take constructive criticism to help improve yourselves and the students than you need to find another job because there are plenty of people standing in line waiting to be a GOOD instructor.

For your information, not only are the PL's doing this, they are also instructors. They know exactly what goes into teaching and the work that is involved.

Find another job so those who care about the students education can take your place you whiney ass!

That's right I am not afraid to say my name, I am an instructor and appreciate the feedback the PL's, PD's give. I enjoy working for this company. If you don't like it then go find anther job. You annoy me and I don't even know who you are because you are a wimp and too afraid to say your name.

You are very hostile and you need to check that before you sign back into your class room. She was not nasty at all. All she commented on was APA style writing. Hate is a very strong word and you should be dismissed for even using such a word. The PL's are just doing their job just like you are doing yours. The PL's are not trying to nitpick, they follow a form that needs to be filled out.

If you can't handle constructive criticism then honey your in the wrong field. I would suggest you Ms. Anonymous as number 1 on the Riff list, To afraid to say your name?
