Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

Expense reports/accounting going ...

Many companies are also outsourcing general accounting to other countries.

A huge company in USA just moved its general accounting division out. Expense reports go to a foreign country to get processed.

Don't need to worry about border control or illegal immigrants taking your job; it's being given to them right where they live.

Either way you look at it, those people in the IT department that have provided an excellent value of service to us are getting royally SCREWED! What did their work do to bring down the overall sales of Fossil? Nothing...

The leadership at the top, pitched to Kosta that due to our overall growth for 2014 was only 8%, we must act now and do something immediately! Let's cut the duplicating jobs and REPLACE ALL of IT with people who'll work for less, not have the Fossil family mentality and not worried about servicing the customer. They will be adhering to SLA's (Service Level Agreements) that have been set by management and NO ONE is a priority anymore!

That is exactly what Ed Robben and Robert Shaffer were brought into Fossil from JC Pennys, roughly 2 to 3 years ago to do! Find solutions to cut the budget and find a way to streamline the companies processes, which in itself is a good thing don't get me wrong, there are areas of duplication throughout all of the departments. Will there be more cuts after IT is all gone, who knows? Many rumors circulate about Customer Care or the Accounting departments only time will tell.

In reality, Fossil grew too fast and saw many quarters and years of double digit profits, only to go blind to other competitors (apple and many others in the marketplace etc...) times where we should have been gearing up for "wearable technology" we were too busy celebrating down at the Starbucks - gloating on how bada$$ of a company Fossil is!

We could have been building our online presence and wearable technology, but NOOOOOOOO !!!

All we are left with now, is another failed campaign of recycled, rehashed and quickly thrown together mis-mosh of material called "Calling All Curious", an IT Department that is almost gone, Fossil is left scratching their collective heads as to how we need to better our presence on "omni-channel" and instead of wearable technology. WE are left only to say "connected accessories". Doesn't leave a good feeling in the stomach does it???

For those of you that are "Calling All Curious":

Globalization (or globalisation) - is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture.

Another example of Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world.

How is Outsourcing linked to Globalization? Outsourcing is by its nature globalization. Outsourcing globalizes the labor supply market. Instead of hiring locally, companies can now hire globally in countries where labor is cheaper. Labor isn't the only reason to outsource though, a company may also do it if materials are cheaper in another country, or if certain laws are more flexible.

Outsourcing helps and hurts developed nations.

Hurts: less unskilled labor gets hired locally, raising the unemployment rate. money is spent abroad, lowering the GNP.

Benefits for the company: cheaper goods for consumers, higher profits for companies

I just wonder after all is said and done when Ed Robben and Robert Shaffer pack up their bag-o-tricks and move on to the next company? With their pockets lined of greenbacks because of all the kickbacks they rec'd by selecting Infosys to replace the IT department.

Yes from infosys point of view, they might see this as globalization. Any American not speaking on the standpoint of selling out their own to make $ would not see this as globalization. Fossil was going in the direction of globalization when their American workers were building websites and selling their products overseas and in different countries. Laying off these same American workers to hire cheap foreign labor to do the exact same job at a lower cost is not globalization. Some people need to educate themselves before they spew ignorance. More than likely it is Fossil executive trolls vomiting this ignorance. Globalization is about expanding on a global level not throwing out American work for cheap work... Educate yourselves!!!

Isn't the current situation at Fossil a direct result of globalization? See the final bullet point -

Globalisation

Page: 12345Next

We now communicate and share each other's cultures through travel and trade, transporting products around the world in hours or days. We are in a huge global economy where something that happens in one area can have knock on effects worldwide. This process is called globalisation.

What is globalisation?

Globalisation is the process by which the world is becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of massively increased trade and cultural exchange. Globalisation has increased the production of goods and services. The biggest companies are no longer national firms but multinational corporations with subsidiaries in many countries.

Globalisation has been taking place for hundreds of years, but has speeded up enormously over the last half-century.

Globalisation has resulted in:

  • increased international trade

  • a company operating in more than one country

  • greater dependence on the global economy

  • freer movement of capital, goods, and services"

No, globalization is about expanding and integrating on a global level, not selling out for cheap labor, completely different
