Why are there so many worthless Directors / Sr Directors in QC? Most of them cant manage shiiit, let alone work on more than one task at a time. Its obvious they got their positions by sucking a$$ and wearing knee pads. These MF's are collecting big paychecks and rewards and are no better than the Jr PMs. I hope HR and others read this and look at the POS talent pool of so called DIrectors / Sr Directors and add them to the rumored 5K layoff.

@ 104209: The technology changes at least every year. If your engineers aren't constantly innovating or at least upgrading their technology, in 3-5 years the company will fold. Between December 2013 and December 2015, Qualcomm will most likely have lost 5,000 technical people, including their best engineers in R&D. As I understand it, right now, Qualcomm is primarily just churning out bug fixes for clients that are the technological equivalent of trying to cure a freakin' heart attack with a Band-aid. You're not making money doing this--you're trying to retain clients, who, if they hadn't invested a sh*tload of money in your products already, would have bought from someone else.
@104356: Who said the axe would be figurative! With a little imagination, I'm sure the brain trust in charge of such things at the Q could come up with something; like inviting all of the affected directors and managers on a junket to Cuba, to discuss the possibility of exploiting cheaper labor in chip fab. On the way back they could stop at Gitmo for snacks and entertainment. You can do all kinds of things in Gitmo that you can't do here--maybe even use real axes!
I agree with Anonymous104430, many ( not all) of new ( < 5 year) Dir/Sr Dir folks are just enjoying fruit of rapid growth QC experiences in last few year, rush to monetize this biz opportunity forced upper management to promote them to keep them motivated to push things around...I think its cost of success. time to cut this useless fat!!!
@104430, past performance is no guarantee of future results
Don't forget these Directors were engineers at one time getting QCT to where it is now. You should all get on your kneepads and get busy.
Televised terminations! Great idea. It will be like america's best friends the saudis with their nonstop public beheadings. Except the Axe is figurative of course
The best revenge is the kind you don't have to lift a finger to get. While all of the managers and directors are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the fat bonuses they'll be getting for balancing their budgets by thinning the ranks of engineers, they are forgetting that with fewer engineers to manage, fewer managers and directors will be needed, as well. If SM were smart, he'd televise those terminations. I'd pay to watch my former director get the axe.
Anonymous104252... You described it very well "who don't even know what they don't know....after you tell them" -:), these new leadership folks who contributed greatly in to current toxic environment in QC...it used to be a great company to work for 4-5 years back.
There are idiots at every level, especially the 1 yo 5 year rank, who don't even know what they don't know....after you tell them.
This is called title INFLATION carrot to keep rat race on.....many of these newly minted directors are only good for exploiting people and getting free overtime work for QC...I hope it wont cause any legal issues for the company...
QC should only keep employees who work on an actual project which sells!
From personal experience? I doubt that they are really that good. Kissing a$$ and cavity cleaning require skills.
Anonymous104107, how can you say that? Many of these fine sr. directors and directors specialize in thorough anal cavity cleaning of SVPs and VPs and they are damn good!
A director is no more than 1 step above a senior staff/manager. Many dont even have direct reports. So its not that big a deal these days. Not like directors are rolling in the dough lavishly. Many of them are just like every other workerbee,. Susceptible to layoffs.
