Hmm. 104523 must be really angry at me: He corrected the grammar and spelling before pressing "submit." Look, regardless of how you feel, what I write is more true than QCOM will ever admit. People are being pushed out. QCOM doesn't want to terminate them because it would cost them a small fortune in severance. So they make their lives hell. Some of the "pushees" are very talented people who have been there for a lot longer than five years. But don't take my word for it. Look around the "cube farm" over the next few weeks. Some of those people who are "out on vacation" may not be coming back.

Qualcomm VPs realize that they can get guys like you to work for 80 hours a week just by promising you a green card that will never materialize.

@104265: The answer is obvious. QCOM will make up for the loss of 5,000 bodies by making you work twice as many hours as you currently work. But just think of the money you'll save on your water bill if you shower there. And also, the Coke is still FREE!
104212: I call B.S. on the fact that you even work as an engineer at Qualcomm. The ability to communicate in English is a requirement for the job--a skill you are obviously lacking. As for the PIP process, it takes 90 days. But before that, HR has to choose the people they plan on laying off, and lay the groundwork for the PIP--downgraded reviews, disciplinary actions, and other violations of Qualcomm's Code of Business Conduct or ethics--like that resume and/or college transcript where you lied about your grades in English. So they may not even need a PIP for you!
Listen people, I am as busy as ever here at QCT, I can't imagine management reducing headcount 5K with all the projects we have to deliver. NO BIGGIE, NO PIP, NO BS !!!

Layoffs have happened near the end of the year in 2013 and 2014. They are trying a few small cost-cutting measures right now. If it does not create a noticeable impact, you can bet your ass that there will be a major reduction in workforce come the end of 2015. I think they are looking at how 820 is likely to fare at Samsung and if Apple will choose Intel over us in the modem space. Also, we will get a better idea of how Windows 10 has taken off in the mobile market. I feel that the Windows Mobile groups should keep their resume in mint condition in case of the inevitable failure of Windows 10 in the mobile space
