Bloke, you actually think a Town Hall meeting is something of a positive sign? Not from what I've seen. Having a Town Hall meeting is irrelevant. As a matter of fact, if history means anything, this is where the Buggers slip in the verbiage of the coming events- like a layoff.

On capital improvement expenditure, regardless of what they are spending the money on, that's got nothing to do with 'health of a company'; especially being linked to trying to predict layoffs/no layoffs.

Both of those items you mention are outside the scope the layoff topic and are unrelated because those activities are usually planned six months to a full year in advance. Unless something catastrophic has occurred to impede those actions, they go forth. Budgets and expenditures are a function of everyday operations, and are managed by the CFO, and go on before and after layoffs.

Corporations do not operate like your own personal finances. It is a mistake to assess management's behaviour based on this premise. For example: if we, as individuals, think bad times are coming, we typically withdraw from spending and expensive travel/meetings and hunker down.

Not so with a Corporation. They keep pressing on, as long as there is a decent amount of capital in the stock pool, money to be made, and they have a CEO with a goal. If the stock price plummets in a vote of 'no confidence', and it stays that way for several quarters, the board votes the CEO away and they start anew.

Ever notice when a layoff occurred, and not a mere week later, some seemingly frivolous capital improvements are being made about the property? It happens simultaneously, and it makes you scratch your head. That's because you are viewing it from your own personal habits of finance.

Layoffs are planned, as well as the capital improvements. That's actually smart planning on their part, except for how the remaining employee's view the situation. Then HR gets involved with handling the inevitable morale crater.

You must always think clearly about this topic: Every single person in a corporation is subject to dismissal, if it fits a project template. That's why it doesn't make any sense when this person or that person goes away. The decision for action on all items rest with the CEO and the board. The general goals are fashioned by the VP's and the details are executed by the department managers.

Or didn't you notice that?

No, any layoffs might happen only after the next quarter results get published in August. So, nothing to worry until then,

Actually they've planned for monetary improvements, and President is coming to India for a town hall which are positive signs.
