Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Employees have QCOM by the balls if they want

It seems like QCOM is targeting people unfairly with BS reviews so they can put them on a PIP and get rid of them for false reasons. I heard of several people who said they went through this. They said "Managers collude together to shut out employees the want to get rid of." They stop responding to their emails and purposely cut them off from the help, training, information they need to do their job. Then they give them a poor review and ask them to resign or be put on a PIP which gets them fired because they continue the same tactics. If true it's a disgusting tactic that may even be illegal. Collusion, targeting, and retaliation against employees for false reason is illegal I think.

But everyone knows that Qualcomm's whole business model is driven by schedule. If they miss a CS date by a few weeks it a huge deal because phone manufacturers HAVE to meet deadlines for their sales especially around Christmas.

So, hypothetically thinking, what would happen if you Qualcommer's (even just 100 or so) organized and went on "strike" or all happen to get "sick" at the same time and delayed a critical project for a month or so? Serious delays to the schedule could be devastating to the bottom line.

103818: I'm sure you were merely "C" level at Qualcomm. In this country, that's merely average. As for the 50 job offers, some of us really are that good--assuming we're willing to settle for less, which I am not. As for taking a job at Qualcomm in the first place, you make some sacrifices for family. That is no longer necessary. So, neither is putting up with B.S. from the Q.

isn't C-level at Q something like CTO at a minimum, EVP if we're being generous. Let's get real. Everybody is so full of themselves on this board. Some of the finest internet tough guys out there. Must all have 10 inch cocks too. I sure do. Big Swinging Dick

Anonymous103797,

Also, you definitely must be in Marketing/Sales at the Q. Because nornally, most people good at marketing and sales tell lies that people can believe. Marketing and sales at the Q sucks to bad, that not even a grade school kid would believe the the lies, it's laughable. Also, in marketing and sales, you have to be a moron not to have a title that at least doesn't begin with "director". It's called "title inflation". And everyone knows that.

Anonymous103797.. Lol. You're full of shit....

For one, I am considered what you would consider C-level. I use to work at Q now I work for a competitor. Purely technical, in San Diego, well above what C-level at Q makes, not even including the goodies, which are better than the Q at this moment. You don't have 50 job offers. You have 50 interviews ready to screen you at best (if at all). Because if you really did already had 50 offers, at least one of those 50 would be offering you a package much better than the Q and you would have already left...Like I did. Because Directors in SD don't make that much at the Q. There's so many of them, most of them are just 1 promotion away from a Senior Staff/Manager position..Try again.

@ 103503: If you, or anyone else, believe you were deliberately and arbitrarily downgraded so that you were forced to resign, this may qualify as a constructive termination. If Qualcomm is routinely doing this to avoid the WARN Act, and other laws, it's a violation of public policy. The only way to effectively stop it is to file an EEOC claim within 180 days (--300 days in California--) of the most recent review.

103783: When you reach a certain level of experience, you are contacted by executive search firms. The "call screeners" from OOC are automatically routed to a file that I occasionally look at during weekends. They're like freaking cockroaches of the Internet. I don't even know how they got my resume, but the one they are using is about 8 years old. As for Silicon Valley, I started there, and still maintain some contacts with the better local search firms. Picking up and leaving would be a pain, but for the right job at the right price, I'd do it.

@Anonymous103783, lol...flipping bits is the new flipping burgers. you forgot to mention that half of the SD jobs will actually be recruiters trying to arrange "great opportunity with their large client qualcomm". this is because recruiters are morons.

Anonymous103744: unlikely. At most, you've been contacted by 50 headhunters, that would like to arrange a phone screen with you. 2/3's of those will ask you to relocate to the bay area, which if you don't have any strings attached in SD you will be fine. Out of 1/3 left, half of those will be in Orange County, which again will be fine for those who don't mind the commute. Out of the remaining 1/6 of the jobs in SD, 1/2 of them won't even come close to compensation, and that's if you pass their phone screen. The remaining 1/2 of the people are reserved for people who have skills that people really need. Unlikely, given most of you only know how to flip bits at a low level. If you are a higher level software geek, you're prospects look really good outside of the semiconductor industry. But most of you here at Q aren't in the position. So you didn't get 50 offers yet. You maybe got contacted by 50 headhunters. And a lot of them probably aren't even interested in you specifically, but trying to get into your linked in network so they can try to recruit some of your colleagues.

50 offer letters without even so much as a phone interview? Say what?!

@ 103551: There may be one "master" for some of you in San Diego; but many of us are a lot more valuable than the brown-nosing PMs think. This past week alone, I have received 50 unsolicited job offers. I haven't even begun sending out resumes. It's about skills, baby! Meeting the requirements for clearances also helps....

103503: There would be nothing wrong with this if QCOM terminated employees based on a non-discriminatory motive. But using fabricated reviews to cover up the fact that you are getting rid of employees who are older, who cost more in health benefits, or who refuse to be intimidated into working until they drop because they already have citizenship IS illegal. Forget the strike. The only thing that will get SM's attention is the mother of all class actions. Watch this space for the announcement....

So what's the news value in this? Anybody who has worked outside Q in their lifetime, already knows this. If you walk, are let go or are kicked out - that's the world which is waiting you for out there with open arms. In San Diego, there's only one master left worth working for, the Q! If you feel it's like slavery, servitude or bonded labor, you've seen nothing yet.

Sorry guys. I feel sorry for many of you qualcommers that so unaccustomed what the rest of us have already known working all over the place. Being at the bottom of the food chain, this is a cut throat industry. For the longest time the Q was immuned to this because the Q has a big lead over everyone else and it could afford to run a little overweight. If you look around, this industry runs lean and mean, and looks like the Q is getting a lot leaner and meaner. The fact is we are dropping prices in China big time, and in the process totally screwing over the likes of MediaTek and Marvel because if this turns into a pissing match, they'll run out of cash before we will. So consider this a short-mid term pain. And looking at Marvel's numbers today, they seem to be in a world of a lot of hurt...

Clearly, you've never worked at Samsung. There, you go there, they take your passport, and don't give it back to you until you've done with whatever you were committed to doing. It's no joke. Just ask anyone's that been there done that.

I have heard of another round of layoffs in MST group. This time the numbers may be a few thousand. Not sure how true it is.
