I just heard on the news that Devon released a press release last night that denied any layoffs had happened. So what is the truth?

So everyone actually did get severance or was it really determined by years of service?
At least Sandridge Energy was honest and did it the right way, kudos SD!
I worked for Devon for about 5 years and was always amazed at the word "Reorg". Devon-Just because you don't use the word "Layoff" doesn't mean you not letting people go on a regular basis- So drop that "we don't lay people off" out of your pamphlet\speeches. I would also have an attorney check into the "layoff", oops I mean "Reorg". When I was there-Three out of four times it "seemed" the person that was let go was 'older' making more money. I am not privy to the ones let go this time, but see if it follows the same pattern. I feel for all that were let go, and I know I cannot make you feel any better. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
For example, Samson covered their ass by complying with WARN ACT after the fact so no employees could see it coming. Not that it mattered. When your company in trouble, gotta cut costs. When the worm turns, employees will gouge employers again for max salaries and benefits. Same song and dance for last 50 years. If you love the industry, find a way to hang close until things get better; if you were just here for bucks, time to move on to another industry that has less cycles. It's all risk and reward.
Good luck and happy landings.

Yes they have been conducting layoffs since fall of 2014, what they're doing in HR is showing people as 'dismissed' on their Records of Employment just to hide it. Not only is this creating issues for those personnel who were let go trying to collect EI, it's also pretty hard to explain why a person was let go without cause. Devon has been avoiding media attention by letting small groups of people go at a time, less than 50, so that they don't have to publicly report like the other big players. Anyone who still hangs their hat in a Devon office should be ashamed of themselves. They won't have to worry about a hiring freeze, nobody is going to want to work for them anyways, public be warned. All of the hype about being one of the best places to work is all staged with smoke and mirrors.
corporate-speak bs. Of course is was a layoff and they gave at least 60 days severance to escape WARN ACT requirements.
It was officially a restructuring where positions were eliminated.
