Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Times are tough

The energy industry is getting hit hard by a simple function of supply and demand. Unfortunately it was the doing of the North American oil and gas explorer that drove innovation & technology that ironically has placed us where we are at today.

Devon's IT organization is challenged more than others and needs to adjust to the changing times. No one ever said leading is easy and in these time of uncertainty it's the hardest. Tough decisions must be made at all levels of leadership to ensure the company maintains its existence. Alan and Ben had to make a very difficult decision letting people go and I am sure they lost stressed about every single person.

At the end of the day each person has the ability to influence their own direction in life. Their attitude and outlook will determine how successful they end up being. Don't sweat the small stuff. There are many bigger problems in life.

Not trying to be an insensitive jerk here worked at Devon previously and the IT dept had a big 10/90 rule. 10% of the people who actually knew what they were doing and we're keeping things afloat while the other 90% is just along for the ride. Saw a lot of dead weight around that's why when people are let go its business as usual many times at Devon no loss is service. I was appalled at lack of common sense in some of the people the way projects were run and lack of knowledge

Devon when times are good really took care of its employees with hefty bonuses. This time around things must've been really bad because the way these layoffs were handled was very unDevon like but also lets not forget the high life during the good times. But that's what I saw at Devon they never really plan its wreck less reaction to things
