Suppose we limp into next quarter and survive for 2, 3, 4, or whatever number of weeks. How awful will those weeks be? Imagine attendance and student participation. Imagine trying to summon the energy to go to work and pretend like any of it matters. I need as many paychecks as I can get, but I'm dreading the idea of beginning a doomed quarter.

I remember when former students informed me that lifetime placement assistance meant being able to use the LRC to hunt for jobs.
Lifetime Job Placement Assistance... unless... nah... that would never happen! !RIP EPH!!
@1120 brilliant. You've captured the gist of Healed speak
@ 085
What does "help them find programs elsewhere" consist of? Would posting a list of local colleges count? Could it be as simple as an email stating "Dear student, we regret to inform you that Heald College is closing effective immediately. Below you will find a list of local colleges who may accept transfer credits from Heald. (It is up to the receiving institution to determine what credits the will or will not accept). We would like to express our thanks to you for entrusting us with your educational needs, and we wish you luck in all future endeavors".
Look, you're going to lose your job sometime in the near future. Nobody's going to fire you for not retaining students. You're going to be retained for as long as they need you, no less, no more. So you might as well dispense with the double talk and tell them the truth. If you don't know something, say you don't know. If you do, tell them, or point them to where they can get honest help. You have nothing to lose.
What in the world are we supposed to tell current students? Not a classroom discussion I want to have, particularly if given vague doublespeak talking points. The students should be told the truth so they can decide if they want to continue
I'm not sure whether 079 is the source who told us that the CSAC part of this was going to happen by the end of the week. It could have been a case of "say it enough times and it will eventually be true," but I think someone on here has access and knows his sh|t. I'm not sure on this one, though because the government is requiring Heald to allow students to either finish their education or help them find programs elsewhere.
Thanks for the thoughtful responses. It's not so bad around here....
There won't be a teach out. Heald is closing on Friday.
No new students Are allowed to enroll. But there will be a teach out of remaining students or help placing them at an institution of higher learning. So most likely a teach out. These remaining students will be the last chapter in healds story. Make the most of it. Teachers have the ability to change lives.
I hear you OP. That would be absolute misery.
Best advice I can give you as an anonymous poster is. Keep doing what you do. It's not the teachers or students fault. You give them the best couple of weeks that you can. And no matter what don't quit. Quitting will void your unemployment. Just do your best and know you tried untill the end.
I'm assuming you are a teacher, but this question could be used for any role. How does it feel now knowing that despite your efforts to assist in that student getting the most out of Heald, that those in the beginning (admissions) and those at the end (career services) lied through their teeth to literally get them in, and get them out to rake in the $4,000 per student per quarter. You may be dreading the lame duck quarter coming up, but if I were a teacher that cared about the students, I'd be spending every second of class having them looking up resources at where to continue their education properly.
It's a gôddam party in my pants and the asian receptionist is invited.
