OP, I hope that you realize that this had nothing to do with you, and that teachers should be admired. What was going on was that your students were nothing more than customers being sold a product. When it was non-profit, there was no motivation to "fill the seats" so to speak, and the small-size class rooms were a benefit to those students who QUALIFIED to be there. As soon as it went for profit, it became more like economy class on an airline, except paying first class prices. The students that were there to learn were dumbed down to the least common denominator by students who couldn't even do addition and subtraction or know what the start button was on Windows. Don't give up on education, but be wise where you teach and if you find yourself in a similar circumstance, quit on principle, don't let their greed dictate your morality just because you need a pay-check. Instead of standing on the street last week with 5th grade level posters and signs with glitter saying "save heald" ... teachers and students should have been protesting the very nature of the business model itself. EDUCATION should not be FOR-PROFIT. And yes, the State Universities are right up there on the low morality scale. They just don't have commercials on TV targeting those who can't afford it. People stupidly go to them by themselves and spend thousands of dollars. But then again, they actually spend 4 years in their major, not 18 months and skipping 70% of the books. All in all, hopefully you saw this coming a mile away and saved up. Best of luck.
