Anonymous79702: Holy crap! I don't know that I've ever agreed with Rick Perry before, but I keep thinking about his three fed agencies he wanted to shut down. No wonder DOE was one of them!

We as employees should strike and take it to the news. Those idiots shouldn't see a red cent just as employees that were laid off for nothing after years of service, pay withheld, earned vacation time then away and everything else that was cut. They don't deserve anything for ruining the lives of 1,000's of employees and staff.

The DOE is more than just dunces, they are actively corrupt and let this whole for-profit mess get "too big to fail", but thats the thing about greedy ponzi schemes based on finding a patsy, eventually you run out of patsies and have to pay the piper. Virtually none of the 1.3 trillion you hear about will get paid back, for the students it acts as an anchor holding them back from moving or getting married or getting into their first house, which means their entire life their earnings and therefore also taxes and 401k contributions are nothing. They pay double for insurance, rental fees and penalties, credit in general... Which makes it even harder to swing those mortgage sized payments for loans the schools got with no questions asked and spent years ago. It is already much worse of a mess than the housing was in 2008 and it will just continue to get more economy destroying until something fundamental is done to stop the damage and greed.

699 -- the DOE are dunces. They define the concept of petty bureaucrat going through the motions doing as little as possible. I know a DOE official, and she is just appalled at some of the things she sees in DC. They have this one large room with a conference table and coffee bar. Around two dozen "employees" go there every day from 9-ish to 5-ish and read the paper or books, or surf the web, or just chat. That's the worse that can happen to them if they really, really mess up. Paid full-time, no work responsibilities. One of them was an auditor who was constantly sexually harassing female financial aid directors and was found to have really raunchy porn on his computer and in his desk drawers. The consequence? Into the leisure room. It's sickening.

Retiring? Is this the best the DOE can do? How about putting their a** in prison.
