Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Karma finally catches up...

Better late than never but at least now the truth is being known and the end of this chapter is upon us. The founder of Heald who has been rolling around in his grave since 2008 can soon rest in peace, although his legacy is now sadly tied with CCI.

Feel sorry for the low level staff who will pay the price, but the scam had to be stopped. May the students see this as a wake up call. Thank you Harris for doing something about this.

635 because yes, I want to hire someone for my company who 18 months ago was learning how to add subtract and multiply single digit numbers and had an accounting book but only did chapters 1,2,4,7,9, and11 so he can get his degree sooner than everyone else? Cutting corners is bad enough but to cut the corners for someone else to get a quick buck is unethical and insulting to both the student and future potential employers.

635, an AAS in accounting is possible IF an entering student has a basic grasp of math. However, students were being admitted who did not even have that ability. It's ridiculous to claim a student can earn an accounting degree, even at the associate's level with elementary school math skills.

635 And how long did that last? - a day? a month?

An AAS in Accounting in 18 months is very feasible and realistic. The Accounting students I've worked with all have great jobs in their field.

617, it ain't over until it's over.

Yeah. :( I was one of them. I put in my two weeks years ago after I couldn't take it any more. Seeing it from both sides put it into perspective and context that my conscience couldn't resolve. Seeing the scripts that admission used made me realize I never had a conversation when I was a prospective student. I was just sold the lies they were told to say. Retention goals, the basic math courses... And I Mean Basic. . Just to get people in there... This was an inevitability. I'm shocked that this didn't happen sooner when companies would see the quality of the education coming with these degrees. To go from adding and subtracting to an AAS in accounting in 18 months?? Please.

One of the sad parts is that some of the low-level staff are Heald graduates from before Heald went for-profit.
