Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

A Company Unloyal

Bottom line. Since I have been with Heald the signs have been there. I have not received a raise in 3 years.

I am a hard-working self motivated employee. I do right by our students and yet I am tagged with all the bad apples. Still, I continue to work and do my best. Heald ask for your blood, sweat and tears and then states, BE HAPPY YOU HAVE A JOB. You are asking for my loyalty to sign petitions and attend rallies, but Heald and especially CCi has had no loyalty to its employees.

It is sad what is happening to our students and employees and that all most people talk about on this blog is the bad apples.

At the end of the day, YES this industry needs to make changes, but this industry is needed for the growth and success of many students who I have seen first hand fall by the wayside in the Standard JCs and Universities.

Hit it right on the head. I was tagged as a "bad apple" after I insisted that papers use proper English grammar. That means sentences end with periods and begin with capital letters. For this I had to go through "remediation." Then who wins the "Teacher of the Term" award, (not that I care)? The evaluators wife of course! I was also told to be lenient as these people come from tough backgrounds. My response was "Isn't this college?" They even enrolled students in my online courses who did not have computers or internet at home. Then it was MY fault these students were inactive. When I complained about this procedure I was told "The student signed a waiver." WTF? They wonder why the college is floundering?

What is demeaning is that faculty have to work their asses off to earn advance degrees and then get paid very little. Some bozo with an online MBA can then come in and be VP of..., Director of..., whatever it is. Faculty have been the people helping students at our campuses but also enablers of a corrupt system. Students pay a lot in tuition. Corporate types get rich. Faculty make little and are then thrown under the bus when the corporates cash out and run. BS!

Sure. The students need the opportunity of having $30K of student loan debt without a job.

Great post, and I definitely agree. No raises and I know I am extremely underpaid...but according to them I should be happy to have a job! 6 day work weeks only for 40 hours. But on the other hand, our students need this opportunity.

I share your same sentiment. I understsand they are between a rock and a hard place, but if we're the pinnacle of CCI(It's poster child) why don't we have more leverage with say in the overall company? Wyotech and Everesy blow chunks compared to Heald, yet we're at the "mercy" of CCI; I hope hope hope we're sold so we can show CCI how a company is supposed to be run.
