Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

Thursday, 04/02/15

Yesterday some of us learned that Fossil will sell our jobs to Infosys, an outsourcing company headquartered in in Bangalore, India. I think this is likely true. More than just another unsubstantiated rumor.

I googled Infosys and the first hit was an article dated 04/01/15, "Reality Check for IT Employees as Infosys Gives 'Lowest-Ever' Salary Hike." I didn't feel any better to read that this "lowest ever" salary hike was more than twice what I just got from Fossil.

It was clear from the time I joined Fossil that they weren't the most generous bunch I'd ever worked for, but this is just another slap.

Of course, it's only fair that IT bear the brunt of this decision since IT was the cause of the company's current problems... No, wait, the people selling us out are the cause of the problem.

Sell your stock (if you haven't already done so) and put a high gloss on the old resume. Anyone who hasn't seen this coming since January either lives under a rock or is intentionally blind. It's going to get very bad.

Fossil pays the lowest salary wages in DFW for IT. It is probably good you dont work there anymore.

Wow folks in IT sorry to hear this. Was a merchandiser with them for 19 years and when we were all let go they made it sound like the 137 of us were the reason the company didn't make their numbers. Good Luck feel your pain.

It's really sad that the rank and file will be the ones to pay for this - this is Sr. Mgmt's fault. They made these decisions, now everyone else gets to pay the price.

Meanwhile, upper management will keep their jobs (and I'm sure Common Services will come through unscathed - what a joke of a department - maybe they can make some more wonderful decisions that don't pan out!).

Yeah, big meeting in scooby and shaggy today. 40-ish people from infosys.... and had the meeting right in front of us basically. But "we have no information at this time.." so dumb they keep us hanging out there. But in the same breath say "we don't want to start rumors", lol, what a joke. Terrible, the way they are handling this.

Thanks for that info, Anon. Those that are left, all they can do now is brace for impact on April 13th. I know of another big ship that didn't slow down and stay vigilant when it should have. Hit an iceberg twenty minutes before midnight on April 14th. Two and a half hours later she broke apart and foundered. They could have picked another week for this, eh?

I work for a competitor and our IT was largely outsourced to a domestic IT consulting company with a huge base in Bangalore. Outsourcing is bad and you guys will pay the piper at some point. Some short term savings might be obtained, the level of service will drop and it's hell to manage. My company actually carved out the IT group into three chunks, two smaller chunks went to Indian pureplay IT companies, similar to Infosys. It was and still is a fiasco, and the costs slowly crept up. There is a possibility they will offer you to convert and join Infosys' payroll, I would do that and I would start to look for a job somewhere else immediately. Do not buy the story that all will be dandy - you do not want to be manged by those guys, trust me. The IT job market is outstanding right now, hit the recruiters and good luck.
