McKesson Layoffs - I Can Never Trust a Company like McKesson Corporation Again

Nowadays, layoffs have become so common that almost every other day you hear news about another larger corporation planning to fire their employees for their own benefit. And if you aren't among those lucky ones to land a job as CEO of a major US Company, then chances are you might be a victim of a layoff as well. However, I’m sharing my story here today, to tell you no matter what happens, there is always hope for something better.

I was a distributor and promoter of America’s largest pharmaceutical company, McKesson Corporation. I was loyal and worked at McKesson for nearly 4 years. The job was good as I got to meet new people and also promote my company’s products and services. However, it was on January 17th, 2014, when the company announced that it would be planning to lay off 140 employees.

With regards to the law, the company filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) with the Department of Labor and Workforce Department. Upon receiving the news, I didn't really feel scared and thought “There was no chance the company would let me go”. However, on March 14, when the time arrived, I learnt that I was on the list of the employees being laid off by the company.

At that moment, I was completely broken, but I don’t blame myself. I could never plan for a loss of income or even imagine what would could happen if I was out of a job. So, that’s when I decided to speak with my manager, only to learn that he thought ‘I wasn't exactly useful and could find a better job elsewhere’. I felt completely demoralized and as a result was under mental stress.

It was during those days that I learnt coping with a layoff isn't easy and involves a lot of trauma. Nevertheless, with the help of my brother I was able to get back on my feet, secure a good job with a reasonable pay and fight the fear of layoffs. However, one thing is for sure: I can never trust a company like McKesson Corporation again.

IT is what IT is. I too, find it hard to trust another company. Mck seems to want to aim and have everything they can overseas...

Can you please confirm the source telling you about the relocate of One Post to Texas? I work in SF now and being assured by management that One Post is not relocating or closing. My suspicion is telling me to job search asap but don't want to jump ship without some reliable info...I've seen so many people cut the past two weeks I am so anxious!! And certainly NOT moving to Texas!! Ugh

McKesson = Corporate greed at Its finest...maybe Hammergren could learn a few things from LinkedIn's CEO who shared his 14 Million Dollar Bonus with all his employees.

Mckesson is laying off several thousand employees. All for the gain of the stake holders and upper management I'm sure the saddest thing is they are continue to purchase major acquisition along with a new building on Las Colinas Tx, you all are so right management has no loyalty, it's all about who can tell the BIGGEST damn LIE

I quite a better paying job of eight years to relocate to Atlanta and take a reasonably good job with McKesson five months ago. The first red flag I noticed was that many of the employees that I came in contact with were new. An employee with two years of employment was considered a long time employee. A couple of months into my work, I also noticed that my manager (with a lofty Senior Director title) was not pushing my efforts up the chain or taking my work and claiming credit for it She was meeting with my stake holders in the SF home office, not including me in the loop, and thus creating her value to the company at my expense. Sure enough, they cut me loose after 4 1/2 months. So six months ago I had a great job with great pay and benefits in Florida; I now have no job, no health care and a flaw in my resume which will be difficult to overcome. McKesson cannot be trusted, McKesson has zero loyalty, McKesson has no ethics.

I too was let go after 10 years with Mck. During my tenure I was promoted and received great reviews every year. The news came without warning. They terminate employees without blinking an eye and then announce they are buying 3 companies for 3 billion. Corporate greed at its best. NEvER trust MCK. They talk core values but could careless about their people. I go out of my way now to warn customers and people about this horrible corporation. They have become the Walmart of the medical industry. Run Forest, RUN

I have worked for McKesson for ten years - eight of them as a remote employee. I can tell you I don't sleep or watch movies... I work 10 -12 hours a day. Are there people who take advantage of being remote? Yes... But they are quickly flushed out as they do not perform or deliver. Companies make strategic decisions based on numbers nothing else. They want to be profitable. I know I am expendable and if it happens I have my plan B... As everyone should. The recent round of layoffs were a lot of talented and experienced people it wasn't because they sucked at their job. It was a business decision that had to be made... Nothing more.

In response to the person who made the rude comments about people who worked from home being useless! Listen up, I WAS laid off and I was a WONDERFUL, hard working (more so than most office based emloyees!). I didn't talk to every person who walked past my desk, I didn't take long lunches, I didnt have to waste time in traffic...no instead I usually worked 12 hours a day and ALL my clients asked for me year after year! I was one if McKessons BEST employees! and I take offense to those comments! GOOD workers are more than capable of working from their home!

What got me laid off? Age! McKesson has an issue with age!

Company that has very strange style of working. Lets half the people work from home and other half who are dedicated are let go. Managers owe no one any exploitation for their action to allow their favorites to let them work from home. Half of them working from home are updated with all movies and keep telling stories of what they saw, what they do when they are at home (mostly sleep and watch TV).

Good buddies of managers are free to use any abusive language in the office. Curse words like "F" and "hell F" work in one sentence will be more than two times. Arrogant employees of arrogant managers. They have a very bad attitude to treat people. Work pressure for the ones who come to work is double where are the ones who are Work From home is as mentioned above.
