Thread regarding SandRidge Energy Inc. layoffs

It's coming soon...

Rumors have been circulating for some time that we'd see a round of layoffs at the corporate tower, and now they're all but confirmed. Security has told us that "something will happen this week", and April 1st is the start of Q2, so the assumption is it will be then, if not before. The morale in my dept. is like a morgue, everyone is assuming we'll get wiped out. All this after James promised the entire company at the Christmas party that SD wouldn't do layoffs in 2015.

I'm glad that they aren't getting rid of the sandpit though. And that they got rid of the sodas.

Everything that has been said keeps changing from day to day from When it's going to happen to how many are getting let go. So no one on here knows a damn thing. Is it frustrating? Hell yeah it is! Could management have said something early, of course they could've and should have instead of just dumping it on us with no warning. Bottom line is I'm tired of the bs around the office and two faced people that claim to have no idea about the entire thing. Show is as employees respect and give us a heads up that something is coming not the day it actually does happen.

30% of the around 700 people that work downtown would be almost double the number I've heard repeatedly which is 100-120. I have heard from upper management that it will happen tomorrow.

30% cut. Starting with extra mgt and low performers. They're keeping the pilot though.

This place is top and middle management heavy. Hopefully, they cut there and reorganize.

An entire week of rumors and speculation has been maddening. I sure wish it would have been swift one everyone knew it was coming on Monday.

At least management could do is let everyone know that the possibility of a layoff was going to be happening in the coming weeks prior to this. Just a heads up would've been nice instead of hearing all of the talk and rumors flying around.

4 were also let go from Community Outreach. From what I've heard, Thursday is the big day, around 25% of the staff if rumors are correct.

Out of almost a thousand views, noone on 28 floors has heard anything? Is this speculation or do you know 100% it will go down this week? Other than the few that were let go in HR.

If 786 people have viewed this and no one knows when it is coming, they really are keeping a good lid on the timeline.

WC would have been an advocate to keep as many employees as possible. When management told him to leave, it was a clear signal to me that something big and bad is coming. As for the downtown not James fault comment, it's called a hedging program. In a hedging program you don't have a bunch of 3-way collars with the lower PUT at $76. That is not hedged for a major event!

I think the individuals who have posted here are looking at the situation from the wrong angle. James didn't plan on all of this happening. Nobody plans on the oil market being crashed by sources beyond our control. What we do is plan FOR it. As difficult as it may seem, when prices of oil are around $50 a barrel, we can't sustain the company the same way and survive. Our executives are making the hard choices as an effort to keep the company alive. Yes, sometimes that means people need to be let go and yes James said there would be no layoffs in 2015. That is a statement that I'm sure he had every intention to uphold. However, things change and life throws you curveballs, especially in this industry and we all know that. If my time at SandRidge has taught me anything it's that the oil business is a roller coaster ride...stop complaining when the ride gets bumpy when you're the one who bought the ticket.

Second confirmation. It will happen this week. Everyone has known it was coming and if you are blindsided, that's your own fault. James not addressing peoples questions on a layoff at the townhall meeting was a slap in the face.
